A day after the Ola and Uber drivers in Mumbai called off their four-day-old strike, Delhi now braces for a complete shutdown by the cab driver unions on Friday, 23 March.

The unions, protesting against poor working conditions, told Hindustan Times, that Ola and Uber cabs will not ply on Delhi-NCR roads as they plan to carry out a ‘large scale’ protest on Friday against the app-based cab aggregators.

The demands also include better compensation, better verification of riders and streamlining of shared duties, the HT report said.

"We are carrying out a large scale protest against the aggregators as they are paying one-third of the promised amount to the drivers,” Kamaljeet Gill, Sarvodaya Drivers Association chief, was quoted as saying by HT.

However, both the tech firms Ola and Silicon Valley-based Uber maintained that there is no disruption to the service in Delhi-NCR.

Earlier on 19 March, drivers of Uber and Ola went on an indefinite strike to protest "low profit margins" in Mumbai.

Ending the strike on Thursday, the transport wing of the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, which spearheaded the stir, said the Uber management, during their talks with the police and the wing's representatives, has given a written commitment on meeting the various demands.

These include a relook at drivers blacklisted by the taxi aggregator and putting up stickers in Marathi on Uber cabs, the statement said.
