UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on late Sunday urged governments around the world to consider protecting women as part of their response to the deadly novel coronavirus pandemic, reported AFP.
“An Indonesian national who had attended the Tablighi Jamaat event in Nizamuddin Markaz, Delhi has tested positive for coronavirus. He is currently under quarantine at a hospital in the district,” said Prayagraj District Administration, reported ANI.
“Wearing face masks has been made compulsory for all staff, officers and visitors to Maharashtra Mantralaya for the coming few months. No entry to anyone without face masks. The decision has been taken in view of prevention of coronavirus,” stated the Maharashtra government.
China on Monday reported 39 cases of the coronavirus and one more death as the country continues to limp back to life since the outbreak first hit the region in December, according to ANI.
As of Monday, China has 81,708 cases of the novel coronavirus, 3,331 deaths and 693 imported cases, added ANI.
In Maharashtra, a large crowd of people gathered outside the residence of Arvi's BJP MLA Dadarao Keche in Wardha yesterday on his birthday, violating the coronavirus lockdown, after they were allegedly told that ration is being distributed at his residence. FIR has been registered against him, reported ANI.
“I'd appealed to people four days back that no one should visit me on my birthday. Still some party workers visited me. My rivals conspired and told people that ration is being distributed at my residence, even when I didn't call anyone here. This was shot to defame me,” added Dadarao Keche.
“Sixteen more people (all men) have tested positive for COVID-19. They are admitted at various hospitals in the state,” said King George's Medical University (Lucknow) Administration, ANI reported.
“Thirty new positive coronavirus cases have been recorded in Afghanistan in the past 24 hours — in Herat (16), Kabul (6), Nimruz (3), Kunduz (2), Faryab (2) and Daikundi (1) provinces, the Health Ministry said on Monday. The total number of cases in Afghanistan is now 367,” stated TOLO news, reported ANI.

Amid lockdown and chatter about the exit plan after 14 April, Council of Ministers will be holding a meeting through video conferencing at 12 pm in Delhi today.
A man escaped from a coronavirus quarantine centre in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district, but he was brought back to the facility and booked by the police, officials said on Monday, PTI reported.
Showket Ahmed Malik, a resident of Handwara town in Kupwara district, fled the quarantine centre on Sunday. On being informed about the incident a police team from Ramgarh immediately swung into action, traced the man and brought him back the same day, they said.
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to get about seven lakh rapid anti-body testing kits by 8 April. These will help in conducting COVID-19 tests in hotspot areas where large number of cases are being seen. ICMR will get delivery in a phased manner.
It's expected that they will get five lakh kits in the first phase, orders have been placed, ANI reported.
In Maharashtra, Wockhardt Hospital in Mumbai has been declared a containment zone after some staff at the hospital tested positive for coronavirus, ANI reported.
Over 50 people, including doctors and nursing staff of a hospital in Bikaner have been quarantined after samples taken from a 60-year-old woman, who died here, tested positive for coronavirus, PTI reported quoting officials.
The staff at the state-run PBM Hospital had handed over the body of the woman to her family members on Friday afternoon but the results of the COVID-19 test came at night, they said. By then, the family members had already cremated the body, the officials said on Sunday.
“Around 198 FIRs registered by Delhi Police over violation of home quarantine orders. These FIRs were registered not only on the basis of the complaints by neighbors or family members but also on the basis of phone tracking,” said Delhi Police.
They added, “Police have been provided phone numbers of all those who are under home quarantine. At least 176 FIRs were lodged solely on the basis of phone tracking and surprise physical visits.”
East Delhi BJP MP Gautam Gambhir on Monday offered Rs 50 lakh from his MPLAD fund to the Delhi government for procurement of equipment for medical staff dealing with COVID-19 cases, around two weeks after he pledged the same amount for the purpose, PTI reported.
The Delhi government has yet to respond to his previous offer, said an aide of the cricketer-turned-politician.
“It is stated by Deputy CM Manish Sisodia that funds are needed to meet the growing demand of medical equipment in several Delhi government hospitals. In addition to Rs 50 lakh which I had pledged two weeks ago, I would further like to pledge Rs 50 lakh from my MPLAD to your kind office with the hope that the said amount would be used in procurement of equipment of medical staff as well as treatment of COVID-19 patients,” Gambhir said in a letter to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday.

Thirty-three new coronavirus positive cases reported in Maharashtra today —19 in Pimpri-Chinchwad, 11 in Mumbai, one each in Ahmednagar, Satara and Vasai. Total number of positive cases in the state now stands at 781.
A 65-year-old man, who was coronavirus positive, died at Nalasopara private hospital last night during treatment,” said Vasai Virar City Municipal Corporation in Mumbai, AI reported.
"Fourteen more COVID-19 positive cases reported in Andhra Pradesh — five in Visakhapatnam, three in Anantapuram, three in Kurnool, two in Guntur, and one in West Godavari. Total number of positive coronavirus cases in the state stands at 266,” said Arja Srikanth, State Nodal Officer, ANI reported.
So far, two deaths have been reported from the state.
“The central government had said that they are giving us 27,000 PPE kits. We did not get it yesterday, maybe we will receive it in a day or two,” said Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain., reported ANI.
Jain added, “We have not been able to trace the contact of 70 people, out of the total number of positive cases found in Delhi. Many of them were found to be positive only yesterday, so we will find it out by this evening.”
In Bihar, due to the novel coronavirus, the total death toll stands at 32. While the total testing has increased to 3,545, around 755 tests are under process.
RSS Joint General Secretary Manmohan Vaidya said, “India handled COVID-19 situation comparatively better than developed nations,” PTI reported.
He added, “To tackle COVID-19 outbreak, India's leadership took some decisive steps which got public support.”
“A resident of Almora who had recently attended the Tablighi Jamaat event at Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi has tested positive for COVID-19. Total positive coronavirus cases in Uttarakhand at 27,” said Yugal Kishor Pant, Additional Secretary (Health), ANI reported.
In his message on BJP’s 40th foundation anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “India's efforts have set an example before the world in tackling coronavisus pandemic. India is one of the countries which understood seriousness of this disease and waged a timely war against it. India took several decisions and tried its best to implement them on ground.”
He added, “India has worked rapidly with a holistic approach that is being appreciated by not only Indians but also WHO. All countries should come together and fight this, so India had active participation in the meeting of the SAARC countries and the G20 meeting.”
The Central Zoo Authority has asked zoos to monitor animals 24x7, collect samples in the suspected cases after a tiger in US zoo tested COVID-19 positive, PTI reported.
“Zoos advised to be on high alert, mammals like cats, ferrets and primates to be carefully monitored,” the CZA stated.
Himachal Pradesh Police said, “FIR registered against four people linked to Tablighi Jamaat under Sections 188, 269 and 270 of IPC and Section 51 of Disaster Management Act, in Nerwa area of Shimla.”
Police added, “Three of them attended Markaj at Delhi's Nizammudin on 9 March and one attended on 18 March,” ANI reported.
United States Embassy said, “In India on 28 March,US government, via US Agency for International Development,announced 2.9 million to support India in its response to COVID-19. It builds on a foundation of over 1.4 billion in health assistance, and nearly 3 billion in total assistance, that US provided to India over last 20 years,” ANI rreported
The embassy added that the these new funds will support two organisations. $2.4 million for USAID's health strengthening project, implemented by Jhpiego, an international non-profit health organization affiliated with Johns Hopkins University, and $500,000 for the World Health Organization (WHO).
“The funds will help the Government of India slow the spread of COVID-19, provide care for the affected, and support local communities with the tools needed to contain the disease,” added the embassy.
“A 65-year-old man, who tested COVID-19 positive in preliminary test, died today morning in Amritsar. He was admitted to a hospital on 29 March and had tested negative. COVID-19 infection has not been conclusively confirmed behind his death,” said Punjab Special Chief Secretary KBS Sidhu, ANI reported.
“A 62-year-old woman died due to coronavirus in Vadodara this morning. She had a history of travel to Sri Lanka. The total number of positive cases in Vadodara stand at 12 (including 2 deaths and 4 discharges),” said Vadodara District Collector Shalini Agrawal, reported ANI.
“Seven hundred and sixty-nine foreign tourists from all over the country register on ‘Stranded in India’ portal in first five days. Assistance in various forms being rendered to those requesting for help through the portal,” said the Ministry of Tourism, ANI reported.
Healthcare professionals have increased scientific sampling and testing of coronavirus suspects across Kashmir region which has seen a surge in cases of the virus.
A total of 14 new cases of COVID-19 positive were detected in Kashmir on Sunday, raising the total number of positive cases in the union territory to 106, PTI reported.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed all universities and colleges to set up mental health helplines to address psychosocial concerns of students during the lockdown imposed to combat coronavirus, PTI reported.
“During the period of national lockdown, it is equally important to address any kind of mental health and psychosocial concerns of student community during and after COVID-19 situation issue,” UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain said in a letter to vice chancellors.
“Eight members of Tablighi Jamaat who had attended the Nizamuddin Markaz event in Delhi have tested positive for COVID-19 in Khairabad. Seven of them are Bangladeshis and one is from Maharashtra, they will be shifted to a hospital,” said Alok Verma, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Sitapur, ANI reported.
Sixteen people tested positive for coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, taking the total number of cases in the state close to 300, officials said in Lucknow, PTI reported.
Six samples from Lucknow, eight from Sitapur and two samples sent from Agra have tested positive for the infection, an official KGMU statement said.
With the fresh cases, the total in the state reaches 294 and is likely to cross the 300-mark as more reports are expected later in the day.
All major ports and public sector undertakings, under Ministry of Shipping, have decided to contribute Rs 52 Crore to PM-CARES Fund, as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund, in the fight against COVID-19, reported ANI.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation today with Scott Morrison, the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia. They discussed COVID-19, and domestic response strategies being adopted by their respective governments. They agreed on importance of bilateral experience-sharing in context of this crisis, ANI reported.
PM conveyed that the government of India stands ready to provide necessary facilitation and support to any Australian citizen stranded in India due to travel restrictions. PM Morrison assured that Indian community in Australia would continue to be valued as a vibrant part of Australian society.
“A second notice has been issued to Maulana Saad (of Tablighi Jamaat) under section 91 CrPC. He, through his lawyer, has submitted some documents and information to Delhi Police which were sought in the first notice. Most documents are in Urdu. Police has sought just information and not asked him to come,” ANI reported quoting Delhi Police sources.
Amid the shortage of safety gear for medical staff in the fight against coronavirus, Madhya Pradesh health officials with the help of some prisoners have come up with a low-cost personal protective equipment kit, reported PTI.
State health commissioner Faiz Ahmed Kidwai has also called for rational use of PPE kits, which the health care workers and those deployed at quarantine centres, hospitals and laboratories need the most at this crucial time.
The UK government on Monday said the Prime Minister Boris Johnson is “doing well” after staying overnight in hospital for some “routine tests” related to his COVID-19 diagnosis, PTI reported

A 14-month-old boy with no travel history has tested positive for coronavirus in Gujarat's Jamnagar district, sending the health officials into an overdrive to find out from where the child contracted the deadly disease, PTI reported.
The child, whose test came out positive on Sunday, is on ventilator support and the locality where his labourer parents reside in Dared village has been put under complete lockdown to check the spread of the virus, officials said.
This is also the first case of coronavirus infection in Jamnagar district.

Telangana Chief Minister's Office on Monday clarified that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao suggested extension of lockdown for 2 more weeks (after 15 April), reported ANI.
The minister took a reference from a Boston Consulting Group (BCG) report which suggested lockdown in India will be good until 3 June.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has written to the Maharashtra chief minister to draw his attention towards the reported plight of nurses in Mumbai.
“I'd like to draw your attention to a situation which has been reported to us regarding plight of nurses in Mumbai. They are requesting necessary steps be taken to provide PPE and separate accommodation to employees COVID19 positive,” the Kerala CM wrote.
The Karnataka government on Monday, 6 April, said that food units in the state engaged in bakery, biscuits, condiments, confectionary and sweet for manufacturing, supply and operating retail outlets with minimum staff are permitted, ANI reported.
“Units shall not permit serving/dining in premises and only parcel/takeaways are permitted,” the state government said.
The central government has removed restrictions on the export of 12 active pharmaceutical ingredients and 12 formulations made from these APIs with immediate effect, said Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, ANI reported.

The UN Security Council will hold its first meeting on the coronavirus pandemic on Thursday, 9 April, after weeks of divisions among its five permanent members, diplomats said on Monday, 6 April, AFP reported.
Last week, exasperated by the back-and-forth that has paralysed the Council, including between China and the United States, nine of the 10 non-permanent members formally requested a meeting featuring a presentation by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
US President Donald Trump on Monday, 6 April, said that if India does not export hydroxychloroquine to the US, India may witness retaliation, ANI reported.
“I spoke to him (PM Modi) on Sunday morning and I said we appreciate it that you are allowing our supply (of hydroxychloroquine) to come out, if he doesn't allow it to come out, that would be okay, but of course, there may be retaliation, why wouldn't there be?” he said.
