A horrifying video of a man throwing a dog from a terrace surfaced on Facebook on Monday – and has since been widely circulated on WhatsApp.
The dog shakes and whimpers as the man smiles at the camera and holds him by the neck and back. He then drops the dog from a height. The video ends with sound of the dog crying in pain.
(The Quint has chosen to not upload the video).
The man in the video has now been identified as Gautam S, a final year MBBS student from Madha Medical College, Tamil Nadu.
It is, however, not clear when the video was shot. While the name of the person who shot the video is also being circulated, it can only be established after further investigation.
When the police, accompanied with activists, went to arrest the duo, they were found absconding.
While Gautam went home to Chennai, the other returned to his village, the police claimed.
The cops will be visiting the college again on Tuesday to see if some action can be taken.
Earlier, the Humane Society International/India offered a reward of Rs 1 lakh to anyone who was willing to voluntarily provide valid information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person.
Even Blue Cross of India had launched a campaign on Facebook to nab the perpetrators.
