Congress General Secretary Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Wednesday, 9 October, that his party needs to do some introspection.

Speaking to the media, Scindia was responding to a question about senior leader Salman Khurshid's statement about leadership "vacuum" in the party.

“I don’t comment on others’ statement, but it is true that the Congress needs introspection. The party’s situation should be assessed and improved, and this is the need of the hour.”

Khurshid had said on Monday that the Congress was taking too long to come to terms with its defeat in general elections.

“Our biggest problem is our leader has walked away,” Khurshid said, referring to Rahul Gandhi’s resignation as party chief.

Over the past two months speculations have been rife that the Congress general secretary could deflect from the party and join opposition BJP unless appointed as the Madhya Pradesh Congress chief, according to NDTV.

While many of his comments in the recent past in support of the Modi government have fulled the rumors, party sources have denied any such news.

Both the senior Congress leaders statement come at a crucial point before the Maharashtra and Haryana State Assembly polls. Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s decision to go abroad right before the state elections has been scrutinised heavily. Post his resignation, the party doesn’t seem to be in a good shape with a number of leaders across the country joining rival opposition parties.
