Amid continuing tensions in northeast Delhi, three journalists from the TV channel NDTV, and one from JK 24X7, were allegedly beaten up by a mob on Tuesday, 25 February.

NDTV's executive editor Nidhi Razdan posted on Twitter saying that the mob “stopped beating them after realising they are 'our people - Hindus'.”

Shortly after, one of the journalists, Saurabh Shukla tweeted, “In the past one hour, I’ve received many calls and messages from well-wishers. We are fine. We’ll talk about the rest.”

Chetan Bhattacharji, Managing Editor, NDTV 24x7, took to Twitter to say that both the journalists were back safe, “although injured and bruised”. He further said that a third NDTV reporter, Mariyam Alavi, had also been “attacked” in northeast Delhi but was also safe.

NDTV said Gunasekar was hit by rioters while he was at one of the spots in northeast Delhi. He lost a tooth in the attack. His fellow reporter, Saurabh, who tried to shield him, was punched, the channel said.

Meanwhile, news channel JK 24X7 also claimed that one of their journalist Akash Napa was also severely injured in Maujpur.

“Shameful scenes from Maujpur. Amid the violence, JK 24X7 journalist Akash Napa became the target of rioters’ gunshots. Akash has been admitted to a hospital and is critical,” the news channel tweeted.
