Dark is Beautiful, a campaign for which critically acclaimed actress Nandita Das is a national spokesperson, has asked Deepika Padukone to embrace her skin colour.
In a Facebook post, the campaign questioned the industry-need for fair skin through two different skin tones used on the actress’ picture.
Deepika Padukone, recently started a foundation The Live Love Laugh Foundation, started a campaign called You Are Not Alone to help high school students and teachers to deal with stress, anxiety and depression.
The Dark is Beautiful campaign pointed this out while saying;
Padukone, along with being a successful Bollywood actress, is also brand ambassador of various products including fairness cream Neutrogena.

Critically acclaimed actress Nandita Das, who is known to be vocal about the issue, lent her support after the campaign was launched in 2009.
The campaign post points out her interview in the Times of India, where Das says:
The campaign, which speaks against industrial demand and products supporting fairness, was started by an NGO named Women of Worth run by Chennai-based Kavitha Emmanuel.
