A cadre of Muslim Liberation Army (MLA) has been apprehended by the police in Assam’s Kokrajhar district in the wee hours of Wednesday, Assam Police said.
Acting on specific information, the police nabbed the cadre from Srirampur area under Gossaigaon police station last night, BTAD Inspector General of Police L R Bishnoi said today.
The militant has been identified as Hafizur Islam and a 7.65 mm pistol and two rounds of ammunition have been recovered from his possession.
The outfit is an anti-Bodo organisation and has been allegedly involved in the killing of Bodo Peoples’ Front supporters, he said.
Islam was allegedly involved in the killing of two BPF supporters during the last parliamentary polls and there was intelligence input that the group was planning more such attacks in the run-up to the forthcoming Bodoland Teritorial Council polls, Bishnoi added.
