Mumbai developer Mukesh Patel, who was the co-owner of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kochi Tuskers Kerala that was controversially disbanded by the BCCI in 2011, has bought a team in the intra-city T20 league launched by Mumbai Cricket Association.
The Mumbai T20 League will be played at the Wankhede Stadium from March 11 to 21 and will feature six teams, named Mumbai North, Mumbai North-West, Mumbai North-East, Mumbai North-Central, Mumbai South-Central, and Mumbai South. The idea of the league is to showcase talent of the local players who don’t get the opportunity on a bigger stage.

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has taken strong objection to a recent BMC circular stating that no-objection certificates (NOCs) from MHADA are not mandatory for issuing occupation certificates (OC) to redeveloped cessed buildings.
Such a clause, MHADA argues, will deny it surplus area that it gets from builders in such projects. It has decided to take up the matter with Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta.

Over one lakh farmers are expected to come to Mumbai on March 6 to draw the attention of the Maharashtra government to their issues, Kisan Sabha state secretary Ajit Navale said on Wednesday.
“Despite the loan waiver announcement, 1,753 farmers have committed suicide in the state. The agriculture sector is going through a bad phase and to draw the attention of the state towards these issues, we have decided to hold a rally with over one lakh farmers marching from Nashik to Mumbai,” Navale said.

To improve India’s rating in the World Bank’s (WB) annual report, which ranks countries on their Ease of Doing Business (EODB), the Mumbai civic body has called for a meeting to convince builders and architects — whose feedback will be sought for the report — that their initiatives have made a difference.
Mumbai is one of the two Indian cities — the other is Delhi — from which the World Bank will seek feedback for its ranking, and the real estate sector is expected to play a key role.

The Bombay University and College Teachers’ Union, in a letter to the vicechancellor of the University of Mumbai, has alleged that academic bodies formed temporarily in the absence of elected members continued to meet and discuss pertinent examination issues despite there now being elected boards in place.
The teachers’ union accused the ad hoc board of holding meetings to discuss new courses, design curricula and set up panels of papersetters and examiners for examinations without inviting these newly-elected members.

An undercover Railway Police Force operation, which involved constables posing as truck drivers and drug addicts and staking out for hours around railway tracks to nab members of the notorious phatka gang, has led to six arrests in just four days.
Western Railway would register three to four strikes every day by the phatka gang between Dadar and Borivali. Since the undercover operation was launched on Sunday, only one case has been registered so far this week.

A three-year-old girl died after she was knocked down by an unidentified vehicle in Dombivli on Tuesday evening, the police said.
The police are now checking CCTV cameras in the locality to identify the vehicle and trace the driver.
Located around 39km from Mumbai, Dombivli is a part of Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Police are on the hunt for an unidentified man, who has been sexually harassing a 26-year-old woman from Bandra by creating fake profiles of her on Facebook and WhatsApp, claiming that she is a sex worker, posting morphed photos of her and sending her rape threats.
Police said the woman works in the administration department of one of Mumbai’s top colleges. Last month, her colleague told her that she had received a Facebook friend request from a person whose profile had a different name, but the same photos as the woman’s.
