Two filmmakers from Mumbai have been asked by the Censor Board chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani to get a no-objection certificate from none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi to get their documentary on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal released in India.

Khusboo Ranka and Vinay Shukla, the makers of Hindi-English documentary titled An Insignificant Man, have chronicled the anti-corruption protests of which Anna Hazare was the face, and which resulted in the birth of the Aam Aadmi Party, the NDA sweeping to power at the Centre, and Kejriwal becoming the Delhi Chief Minister with a thumping majority.

The documentary, produced by the Ship of Theseus director Anand Gandhi, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, and has since been screened at 40 festivals across the world. Over the next few weeks, it will be screened in Sydney, New Zealand, and Washington.

3. Mumbai Police Bust High-Profile Sex-Cum-Blackmail Racket on WhatsApp

Crime branch officials have busted a high-profile online sex-cum-blackmail racket in the suburbs. While the police have rescued a woman, the pimp involved in the alleged racket is absconding.

Unit 9 of the crime branch learnt of a WhatsApp number, which was being used to lure men, and later blackmail them.

On tracing the number, a police official, under the guise of a prospective client, chatted with one of the pimps at length. After fixing the rate for the girl - anywhere between Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh - the pimp asked him to meet at a room in a five-star hotel.

On Tuesday, the police sent across a fake client, who arrived at room no. 207 and rescued the girl. Three mobile phones were recovered from her. From the video footage in the phone, the police learnt that clips were shot of the client and the sex worker. "These videos were recorded without the knowledge of customers, and were used for black mailing them," said one officer.

4. Has BCCI Advertised for the Head Coach Because of This?

Anil Kumble (Photo: Reuters)

Two days after Mumbai Mirror reported Team India head coach Anil Kumble’s demands of captaincy fees for Virat Kohli and a position for himself on the selection committee, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday showed Kumble and the team who’s the boss.

The BCCI invited applications for the head coach’s post, sending a reminder to Kumble that he will not get an automatic extension after his term expires at the end of the Champions Trophy next month.

Interested candidates have been asked to apply by May 31 and will be interviewed by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman.

The BCCI, in a release, said it wanted to “ensure a fair and completely transparent process” even as the board sources told Mumbai Mirror that the board members were peeved at Kumble’s frequent presentations on the wage structure for the players, salary hike demands, and his insistence on expanding the ambit of 26% players’ share from the Board revenues.

A Nashik businessman died after being thrown off a bridge in Kongaon, Bhiwandi, allegedly when a fight broke out with three scooter riders Wednesday night. Asad Sayed, 53, had visited Dombivli on work and was driving back home to Nashik with two others in an Ertiga car around 9.30 pm last night when the incident occurred.

He was on the Kongaon bridge in Bhiwandi when a speeding Activa scooter, with three riders, overtook him. Sayed shouted out a reprimand, which did not go down well with the trio. The riders pulled over a little ahead and got off to intimidate Sayed. The businessman, too, got out of his car and an argument ensued. The spat soon turned into a scuffle, during which the scooter riders allegedly pushed Sayed off the bridge railing.

Sayed landed more than 10 feet below in a mangrove marsh, while the alleged perpetrators ran away.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) probing money laundering angles in a case involving Indian Performing Rights Society (IPRS) and Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) said there were serious ‘distribution related lapses’ in the post-revenue collection phase.

The ED moved in after noted lyricist Javed Akhtar, who is the IPRS chairman, complained of financial irregularities in the functioning of the two bodies. The IPRS is registered as a copyright society.

“We are probing as to why despite revenue (funds) being collected, the raised money wasn’t being distributed amongst and between IPRS stakeholders and legitimate recipients,” a senior ED officer privy to the investigation told Mirror.

9. ‘Behen Hogi Teri’ Producer Tony D'Souza Detained for Poster That Sees Leading Man Rajkummar Rao Dressed as Lord Shiva

The disputed poster of Behen Hogi Teri.

In April, Amul Mohan, a co-producer on the Rajkummar Rao and Shruti Haasan-starrer Behen Hogi Teri, tweeted a teaser poster of the film which had Rao as a dejected Lord Shiva sitting atop a motorcycle. While it was hailed as “oddly cool” by some, others wondered if it would unwittingly invite outrage from devotees of the Hindu deity.

Over a month later, Mirror has learnt that Jalandhar resident Ishan Sharma, taking offence at the poster, has filed a private criminal complaint against the makers of the romcom at Jalandhar Magistrate Court. Following this a warrant was issued against the makers and co-producer Tony D'Souza, who appeared at Versova police station on Thursday.

“Since a warrant was issued, Tony had been called to the police station. We have moved the Andheri Magistrate Court and have applied for bail. During festivals many artists dress up as gods, but that doesn’t mean they are demeaning them in any way. Even Akshay Kumar had played Lord Krishna in OMG: Oh My God! and was seen riding a bike, no one had raised an objection then. Why now?” argues the film’s lawyer Bhushan Mahadik, who is currently in London, adding that the complainant is trying to get publicity out of the episode. “There is a Censor Board that advises cuts if necessary. We will examine the complaint in detail and will take strict action against the complainant if he's in fact trying to get publicity”.
