Work on the state government’s pet project, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Memorial in the Arabian Sea, is all set to begin. Construction of breakwaters and reclamation of land will begin on October 10, sources involved in the ambitious project told Mumbai Mirror. The state issued work orders to Larsen and Toubro (L&T) on September 14, clearing the decks for the work to begin, they added.

A blacklisted firm is allegedly trying indirect access to the lucrative Andheri RTO slum redevelopment project. One of the bidders for the project is LTR SSM Pvt Ltd, a joint venture between L&T Realty and SSM Realty. Interestingly, one of the company’s directors is son of Shailesh Mehta whose company Sunshine Builders and Developers and all its directors were blacklisted by Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) in June 2015 for irregularities and delays in the Mahakali Darshan SRA CHS redevelopment project. Another clear link between the blacklisted firm and the new company is Sangeeta Mehta, Shailesh Mehta’s wife, who is also a partner in SSM Realty.

Tired of waiting for the construction of their new homes in Bhiwandi, members of around 15 families stormed into the developer’s office in Thane’s Lake City Mall on Sunday, camping in the cramped room overnight in an unusual protest. They demanded that their money should be refunded or the company should present a credible plan for speeding up the work on the apartment complex.

Three cases of rioting registered in 2008 against Shiv Pratishthan Hindustan chief Sambhaji Bhide while protesting against the screening of Bollywood movie Jodha Akbar were withdrawn, the Maharashtra government has said while responding to a Right to Information (RTI) query.
Meanwhile, speaking during the state Budget session, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had said that there wasn’t any direct evidence of Bhide’s involvement in the Bhima Koregaon violence that killed one person. In the FIR registered by the Pune rural police, Bhide continues to be an accused. In 2008, the Sangli police had registered three cases against Bhide and his followers who protested outside local movie halls against the screening of the Bollywood period drama, Jodha Akbar – Crime Record (CR) no. 32/08 – for unlawful assembly outside a movie theatre, defying the order issued by the district collector. Bhide and his followers were also booked for damaging the theatre’s property by tearing off the movie posters.
