Mumbai Police arrested a 20-year-old choreographer on Tuesday, 19 June, for allegedly sexually assaulting a 17-year-old college student, Mumbai Mirror reported.

The police said that they found the survivor in a semi-conscious state at an eatery in Andheri after receiving a tip-off.

The survivor told the police that she met the choreographer, who had earlier participated in a television show, through a social media platform.

She added that he invited her to meet him at a location in Mumbai’s Andheri, where he drugged her and sexually assaulted her.

The girl has been hospitalised and is receiving care. When the police started investigating, they learned that the girl’s parents had already filed a complaint with the DN Nagar police station as she had not returned after leaving home on Sunday. We’re currently investigating what he drugged her with.

The police identified the suspect based on the girl’s complaint and her phone call records. They then tracked down the choreographer to his residence in Mumbai’s Nalasopara.

“He has thousands of followers on social media. He became famous after appearing in a television dance reality show in 2007,” the police said.

The police added that the choreographer has been charged for offences under the Indian Penal Code as well as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.
