The three other deceased were identified as Zahid Shiraj Khan, Sarika Kulkarni and Tapendra Singh.

The bridge which connected the area near The Times of India building with the iconic CSMT station was commonly known as 'Kasab bridge' as the 26/11 Mumbai attack terrorist used it during the terror strike.

Recounting the horrific incident, an eyewitness told ABP News that at least a 100 people were there on the bridge when it collapsed.

“There were around 100 people on the bridge when the incident happened. Every day we take the bridge to commute and today this happened. What we can recall, there were people under the bridge as well when a part of it collapsed.”

Another eyewitness said when the bridge collapsed, the nearby signal was on red light – a reason why many didn’t fall prey to the tragedy.

An eyewitness also said the overbridge was being used despite repairs being carried out this morning.

Maharashtra Education Minister Vinod Tawde said both Railways and BMC will conduct an inquiry into its maintenance. Tawde also said a probe will be launched on why the bridge was not closed until the repair work was completed.

Another victim, Mohan Kanyangude succumbed to his injuries after he was taken to the hospital. He used to work at a jewellery shop in Zaveri Bazar. The shop owner said that he used to drop Kanyangude near the foot overbridge.

The shop owner said he was reaching Matunga, when he got a call about the incident. When he checked, he came to know that Kayangude was also among the victims. He was hospitalised and was in critical condition.

He was fighting for his life and after few hours Kayangude lost his life. Kayangude has left three children behind.

Chunnilal Jaiswal 68, a resident of Worli, took a train from Curry Road Station at 7 pm, told The Quint that he was going to his night duty at Anjuman Islam School (CST) when the incident took place. He is a security guard at the school.

He had deboarded a train and went to the bridge. He recollected that when the foot overbridge collapsed there were three to four people below him. Jaiswal got severe injuries on his head and back. When he opened his eyes he found himself in GT hospital, he said.
