At a time when the general populace of the country is reeling under cash crunch, the rich and the powerful seem to be happily continuing their splurging spree.

As if the Rs 500-crore wedding of former Karnataka BJP Minister Janardhan Reddy’s daughter was not enough, it has now emerged that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has spent lakhs for the construction of his new 9-acre house in Begumpet, Hyderabad.

And for what exactly?

A bulletproof bathroom for starters! According to a TOI report, bulletproof glass has been used for the construction of a bathroom and two bedrooms in the chief minister’s house.

The decision to use bulletproof glass was reportedly on the basis of suggestions by security intelligence officials.

In fact, a senior official justified this move quite articulately to TOI.

One cannot take chances with the CM’s security. While planning the security cover of VIPs in particular, it is important to negate every possible threat option. This house is going to be the official bungalow, therefore, the extra money spent on security will not go to waste.

The security procedures at his house won’t be any less than those in place at an international airport. Intelligence Security Wing personnel to man the place round-the-clock, heavy frisking, restrictions on mobile phones and other metal objects. Phew!

The chief minister, who enjoys the highest Z plus security cover and travels in bulletproof vehicles, is supposed to shift to his new house on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Twitter users expressed their disapproval of the indiscriminate spending in their own way:

One look at the pictures of the over one-lakh-square-feet palace, and it becomes clear that no expense has been spared.
