A minor domestic helper attempted suicide by jumping off the eleventh floor of a high-rise in Faridabad allegedly due to the torture she endured at the hands of her employer, reported PTI.

The girl was thankfully saved, as she was caught in a net spread on the 10th floor of the Kanishka Tower in Sarai area, police told PTI.

The incident yesterday terrified society residents, who took her to a police station. The police have arrested the employer.

A police spokesperson said both the employer and the girl hailed from Bihar. The woman lived in the city to complete her studies and brought the girl, aged around 14, with her.

The minor had injury and burn marks on her body, possibly due to thrashing by the woman, the residents said.

Times of India reported that the girl is now in a protection home in Faridabad as per orders from the Child Welfare Committee. She might be produced before the CWC late on Friday.

The accused has been arrested under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act 2015, reported TOI.

Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi tweeted:

Cases of minors kept as domestic help should be strongly denounced. I urge all to come forth against #childlabour.
