The body of a seven-year-old child was found dumped near a park in Delhi's Nihal Vihar on Sunday, 10 February, news agency PTI reported.

A passerby saw the child’s body and informed the Nihal Vihar police station at approximately 7:30 am on Sunday.

The child went missing from her home on Saturday, 9 February, evening, and her parents approached the police around midnight.

Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chief Swati Maliwal on Monday, 11 February, issued a notice to the Joint Commissioner of Police of Delhi’s Western Range seeking an explanation on why the police did not look for the girl despite a missing report. DCW has also sought police protection for the family.

The girl’s father works as a driver and told the police that the family had last seen her on Saturday evening before she went out to eat some snacks at a nearby shop, reported The Times of India.

Seju Kuruvilla, deputy Commissioner of police (outer), said that the family then lodged an FIR.

The girl’s body has been sent for an autopsy and police are awaiting the results.

Bruises On The Girl’s Body

There were several external bruises and injuries on the girl’s body, and investigating officers said her hands and legs were tied with a thin rope.

According to India Today, the police said that the minor was kidnapped and murdered after being hit by a stone.

Police have said they are probing all possible angles in the case, and they don’t know if the minor girl was sexually assaulted.

Further investigations are underway and police are questioning people in the area, checking CCTV footage and talking to the victim’s family.
