Surat’s 18-year-old Nishita Purohit has topped the AIIMS MBBS national entrance examinations, the results of which were declared on the morning of 15 June.

Purohit, a national-level basketball player, says that while she plans to continue playing the sport, she does not see much scope in the field. She is also a shot put and discus throw athlete.

Speaking to Hindustan Times after the results were out, Purohit said she was very happy with her achievement. She revealed that she stayed off social media and studied for 12 hours a day.

I was not sure about the topper’s rank in AIIMS but was certain about being selected for AIIMS.

Purohit, who plans to study either radiology or cardiology at the New Delhi AIIMS, underwent coaching at the Kota-based Allen Career Institute.

Her father, an IIT alumnus, is the president of a private firm in Odisha. Her mother is a graduate in pharmacy while her brother is an IIT-Bombay alumnus.
