Mathura MP and Bollywood actor Hema Malini is making it increasingly difficult for us to laud her sensitivity or tact. While a conflict-fraught Mathura burns, Hema Malini is tweeting about her new film.

Her blatantly ill-advised move was called out by the BJP, who asked her to delete her tweets.

Hema Malini also tweeted a picture of her ferry ride as the violence in her constituency grabbed headlines.

She later attempted damage control by replacing her tweets with condolences for the victims of the conflict.

Really Hema Malini? Did you really not know until well over twelve hours of the incident?

And your presence IS probably required.

This isn’t the first time Hema Malini has ill-timed her social media posts. When a six-year-old died in a car crash in which her Mercedes was involved, she blamed the child’s father for “not following traffic rules.”

The aggrieved father said it was her driver, arrested for rash driving, who was responsible for the accident.

Tweets Deleted and Quickly Over-Compensated for

As furore around Hema Malini’s insensitive tweets continued to escalate, they were soon removed from the account, and over-compensated by tweets expressing condolences and regret.

Yes, an emoticon makes it all better.

In an ideal world, this is the only thing Hema Malini has tweeted in the last 24 hours.

Let’s play the sensitivity card...uh, 12 hours too late?

Of course there had to be a tweet in Hindi - when all else fails, good, old maatr-bhaasha to the rescue.

(I will definitely come but what is more important than my presence is the presence of proper law and order in Mathura and Uttar Pradesh.)

Hema Malini’s tweet-and-delete act wasn’t missed by the social media users in the country, who called her out for her callousness.
