In what appears like a farce in the name of security protocol in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, a video has gone viral showing three men, reportedly from the Salim Rustam gang of Lucknow, having a ‘good time’ inside a jail.

WHAT DOES THE VIDEO SHOW?

The video that has surfaced on social media shows three criminals, and one of them –Salim Rustam – is an alleged gangster and the leader of Salim Rustam Sohrab gang of western Uttar Pradesh who has shot the video, reported Hindustan Times.

The inmates are seen boasting about the facilities they have inside the jail premises. The leader of the gang shows, in the video, how they can cook meals on an induction plate and store food items inside what is known to be the largest complex of prisons in South Asia.

As cited in ‘Delhi Jail Manual’ under The Delhi Prisons Act, 2000 & Delhi Prisons Rules, cooking unauthorisedly inside the cell or any place inside the prison is an offence.

WHO ALL ARE SEEN IN THE VIDEO?

Apart from Salim, two other inmates and his friends – Rustam (30) and Sohrab (26) have also been seen in the video, which also shows their rooms and bathrooms, reported The Hindu.

According to the officials, the video by Salim has been shot inside the jail.

Prison officials confirmed the video was recorded inside the recently opened Mandoli jail, reported Hindustan Times.

Talking to The Hindu, Director General (Prisons) Ajay Kashyap confirmed the incident and said that a probe has been ordered into the matter.

“The inquiry reports will be submitted at the earliest. The gangsters are lodged in high-security cell number 15 in Mandoli jail,” Kashyap told The Hindu.

WHO ARE THE MEN SEEN IN THE VIDEO?

The men seen in the video – Salim, Rustam and Sohrab are all brothers from Lucknow’s Lakad Mandi and are named in over two dozen cases of murder, attempt to murder and robberies in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, the police told The Hindu. The three were arrested by Delhi police special cell in 2013.

While the jail is known to have a three-tier security system, it is surrounded by several high-rise buildings in Harsh Vihar, which would have made it possible for someone to throw a phone inside the jail for the men, The Hindu reported, quoting the jail officials.
