The Madras High Court ended up adopting a 37-year-old differently abled man on Tuesday, after his wife abducted him in a bid to own his properties.
Justice PN Prakash invoked ‘Loco Parentis’ (meaning: in place of a parent) and issued a set of directives aimed at his welfare, Times of India reported.
When Manoj Rajan’s mother died, his father put him in a special school. Later he was married to a certain Priya Darshini when he was 29, following which his wife divorced him on grounds of his mental disability.
In 2013, Priya Darshini attempted to take over his custody after his father’s death but did not succeed, so she allegedly abducted him from the special home and married him before a pastor only to snatch his property and sell it for Rs 1.6 crores.
In the hearing of his case, Justice Prakash assigned security protection for Manoj along with ordering for a CBCID enquiry in Manoj’s abduction.
