All Set to Board the Lucknow Metro? Here’s What You Should Know

Here are some facts you should know, which will help you have a hassle-free ride.

Lucknow’s first metro rail, which promises to be “cheap” and “eco-friendly”, will open its doors to the public on Wednesday. Nearly nine months after its trial run, the metro is all set to open its 8.5 km “priority corridor” to the public.

The corridor, which extends from Charbagh station to Transport Nagar, was jointly inaugurated by Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday. Its claim to fame is that it is allegedly India’s fastest ever metro, and has been certified as a “green metro”.

Your Daily Metro Route

From Charbagh to Transport Nagar, the total number of stations the “priority corridor”covers is eight. At present, these are the only stations the metro will be passing through.

However, the total extent of the corridor is 23 km, from Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport to Munshipulia.

What Makes it a Hassle-Free Ride?

While Akhilesh Yadav laid the foundation stone for Phase 1A of the Lucknow Metro Rail project on 4 March 2014, work for the same began on 27 September, the same year.

The trial run of the “priority corridor” was piloted by two women – Pratibha and Prachi Sharma – on 1 December 2016. The principal advisor to the Lucknow Metro Rail project is ‘Metro Man’ Elattuvalapil Sreedharan.

The metro rail system is said to have the “most advanced signalling and train control system”, as per a report in The Indian Express. The system, known as Communication Based Train Control System, will equip trains to practically function on “driverless” mode.
