Lt General Praveen Bakshi met with Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar at South Block in Delhi on Wednesday.
Bakshi, who was the front-runner for the position of Indian Army chief, arrived from Kolkata on Wednesday on Parrikar’s invitation. Lt Gen Bipin Rawat was appointed as the chief of Indian Army, leaving many a senior officers miffed.
Given this meeting comes just days after the appointment, it is likely that Bakshi may choose to step down from his post.
Bakshi is a graduate from the National Defence Academy and had been commissioned into the Skinner’s Horse regiment, as reported by Firstpost.
Lt Gen Bakshi has been at the forefront of two major army commands – the Nothern Command in Uddhampur and the Eastern Command in Kolkata.
Currently, he is the General Officer Commanding of the Eastern Command, which takes care of the anti-terror operations in the crucial China, Bhutan and Myanmar bordering states. Before this, he had been the chief of staff of the Northern Command.
