Lokpal Search Panel Invites Applications for Chairperson & Members

The last date for submitting application for the Lokpal chairperson and member is 22 February.

The Search Committee for Lokpal headed by former judge of the Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai in a notification on Wednesday, 6 February, invited applications for the appointment of Chairperson and members of the anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal.

According to the notification available on Department of Personnel & Training's website, applications can submitted until 22 February, 5.00 pm.

For the post of Lokpal chairperson, the notification stated that the individual either has to be a standing or former Judge of the Supreme Court or “an eminent personality with an experience of minimum 25 years in public departments such as anti-corruption policy, law and management etc.”

Modi Govt Forms Search Committee in September 2018

The Narendra Modi-led Bhartiya Janata Partyt on 27 September 2018, constituted an eight-member search committee to recommend the chairperson and members of the anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal.

The decision to constitute the search committee came four years after the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, which envisaged establishment of anti-graft body Lokpal at the Centre and Lokayuktas in states to look into cases of corruption against certain categories of public servants.

Apart from Justice Desai, other members in the panel include; Justice Sakha Ram Singh Yadav (former judge of Allahabad High Court), Ranjit Kumar (former Solicitor General of India), Arundhati Bhattacharya (former CMD of SBI), Dr Lalit K Panwar (former Secretary), Shabbirhusein S Khandwawala (retired Director General of Gujarat), A Surya Prakash (Chairman Prasar Bharti), and Dr AS Kiran Kumar (former Chairman of ISRO) as its members.
