Train Derailment in UP Injures 52, CM Adityanath Orders Probe

Yogi Adityanath Asks Officials to Find Out Reasons Behind Derailment

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed top officials in his government to find the reasons behind the derailment.

Adityanath has asked Principal Secretary (Home) and the state Director General of Police (DGP) to apprise him of the reasons behind the derailment, a statement released here said.

The Chief Minister gave the instructions in view of the "recent suspicious incidents" involving rail mishaps in the state, the statement added.

Although the Railways will undertake an inquiry into the causes behind the derailment, Adityanth has asked the state officials to look into the matter at their level, an official release said.

Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha added:

The derailment was caused due to the failure of a fresh welding in the track. A probe has been ordered.

Railway Minister Prabhu said action would taken once the inquiry report was submitted to him.

Adityanath also directed that treatment should be ensured to the injured and extended financial aid of Rs 50,000 for the seriously injured, and Rs 25,000 for people with minor injuries.

On the directives of the Chief Minister, Health Minister Siddharth Nath Singh rushed to Mahoba and met the victims, the release added.

Siddharth Nath Singh also said that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Uttar Pradesh Police were jointly probing the incident in Mahoba district.

The North Central Railway said an inquiry had been ordered.

52 Passengers Injured, 10 Critical

At least 52 passengers were injured, 10 of them seriously, as six bogies of the Jabalpur-Nizamuddin Mahakaushal Express derailed early on Thursday morning at around 2 am near Kulpahar in Mahoba district of Uttar Pradesh.

The incident took place between Mahoba and Kulpahad railway stations near Supa village when the last six bogies derailed, SP (Mahoba) Gaurav Singh said.

Ten of the seriously injured have been admitted to a private hospital in Mahoba, he said.

CM Yogi Adityanath Directs UP Health Min to Visit Site

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the state’s Health Minister, Siddharth Nath Singh to visit the Mahakaushal express derailment site and oversee rescue and relief operations.

The health minister said he was personally monitoring the rescue and relief efforts. Thirty doctors and 21 ambulances have been rushed to the accident site, the minister added.

He also announced a compensation of Rs 25000 for those with minor injuries, and Rs 50,000 for ones with major injuries. He added:

NDRF Teams Rushed to Derailment Site

A 47 member NDRF team has reached the Mahakaushal train derailment site. NDRF's RP Singh has said that no casualties have been reported so far.

Among the derailed coaches, four are AC and the rest are general compartments, informed Northern Central Railway’s PRO Manjar Karar .

The train was on its way to Delhi from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh.
