Law Student Gang Raped in Ranchi, 12 Arrested

The incident took place at around 5:30 pm on 26 November when the woman was with a male friend.

A 25-year-old law student was allegedly gang-raped by a group of armed men in Ranchi, following which all the 12 accused have been arrested, police said on Friday, 29 November, according to PTI.

According to an FIR lodged by the survivor with Kanke Police Station, the incident took place at around 5:30 pm on 26 November when she was with a male friend in Sangrampur area on the outskirts of the city, a police statement said.

Some men overpowered the woman’s friend and abducted her, taking her to a nearby brick kiln, where they took turns to rape her, the complainant said.

The accused have been arrested in subsequent raids led by Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rishabh Kumar Jha.

"Will ensure all culprits are convicted. The woman was with a friend when two persons came, misbehaved with her and dragged her to a secluded place in Sangrampur village,” Jha said, according to ANI.

“More men were called to gang rape her. A total of 12 arrests have been made from Sangrampur village. All 12 men have admitted to the crime,” he added.

The men were booked under sections of the Indian Penal Code, SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Arms Act, according to the police statement.

A car, a motorcycle, eight mobile phones as well as the mobile phone snatched from the victim have been seized from the possession of the accused, it added. Two illegal country-made pistols and ammunition were also found during the investigation.
