Senior separatist leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq on Sunday decided to appear before the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Delhi for questioning in the terror funding case, a Hurriyat spokesman said.
The NIA had recently served a third notice to the Mirwaiz asking him to appear before the agency in Delhi on April 18 after he had expressed security concerns regarding his visit to the national capital while responding to the two notices served to him by NIA earlier.

The Indian Army is planning to use a modified version of the AK-203 assault rifle in carbine role for its troops deployed during counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

The rupee depreciated by 37 paise to 69.60 against the US dollar in early trade Monday owing to increased demand for the greenback from importers and banks.
At the Interbank Foreign Exchange, the rupee opened on a weak note at 69.40 then fell further to 69.60 against the US dollar, showing a decline of 37 paise over its previous closing.

The State Bank of India (SBI) on Monday, 8 April invited bids for stake sale in ailing Jet Airways.
SBI, which is the lead lender of a consortium of domestic lenders that has extended loans to Jet Airways, is looking for "change in control and management" of the carrier, according to a public notice.
SBI Capital Markets would be assisting and advising the lenders on the bid process.

A life-size statue of rationalist leader and Dravidian movement founder E V Ramasamy, popularly known as Periyar, was found vandalised at Aranthangi in the district on Monday, police said.
The statue located near the government hospital was found with the head dislodged and lying on the ground, they said. Officials said steps were being taken to repair the statue.

Over 100 people were rescued Monday afternoon after a fire broke out on the ninth and tenth floor of a multi-storey commercial complex in Ahmedabad's Prahladnagar area, a senior official said.
Three persons were unconscious when rescued, Ahmedabad Chief Fire Officer MF Dastur said, adding that the blaze and the resultant smoke at Dev Aurum complex did not cause any casualties.

France Prime Minister Edouard Philippe has called for quick tax cuts to respond to the anger expressed through the yellow vests protests across the country.
Philippe on Monday unveiled the results of a three-month “grand debate” launched by President Emmanuel Macron in response to the protests so ordinary people could express their views on France's economy and democracy.
Philippe said “The debate clearly indicates the direction: we must cut taxes and cut them more quickly.” At the same time, however, he said the government must cut public spending, he added.

Three US troops and a contractor were killed in an explosion near Bagram Air Base on Monday, NATO said, after the Taliban claimed responsibility for the blast.
“Three US service members and one contractor were killed, and three US service members were wounded by an improvised explosive device April 8 near Bagram Air Base,” the transatlantic military alliance’s mission in Afghanistan, Resolute Support, said in a statement.
