A resident of Govindpuri in Delhi was beaten to death allegedly after he slapped an another man for urinating near his residence on the night of Monday, 3 June.

SC Issues Notice to Puducherry CM Over Decisions Taken in Cabinet Meeting

On Puducherry LG Kiran Bedi's plea seeking directions to state Government not to implement decisions in the cabinet meeting which will have financial implications, the Supreme Court directs the government not to implement decisions taken in cabinet meeting on 7 June regarding financial implications.

The Supreme Court has also issued a notice to Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, while making him party in the case. It has sought his reply by 21 June, the next date of hearing.

New Govt to Retain Autonomy of Prasar Bharati: Javadekar

The new government at the Centre will retain the autonomy of Prasar Bharati, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said on Monday.

It was established through an act which safeguards its autonomy, he said after launching state-of-the-art high-definition DSNG vans at Doordarshan Bhawan in New Delhi.

"Autonomy of the Prasar Bharati is important. We will retain it... We want Prasar Bharati to work smoothly and bring new programmes and find new dimensions," Javadekar said.

The minister lauded public broadcasters DD and All India Radio (AIR) for their credible programmes and coverage and asked officials to promote channels like DD Bharati.

Indian Wins USD 2.7 Million in Raffle Draw in UAE

An Indian expat has won a staggering USD 2.7 million in a monthly raffle in the UAE.

Sanjai Nath R, who had purchased the ticket at Big Ticket Abu Dhabi, was announced the winner on Monday of the bumper prize, 10 million dirham (USD 2.7 million), the Khaleej Times reported.

While Nath won the first prize, five other Indian expats were in the top 10 winning list of the raffle, the report said.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani says he will visit Pakistan on 27 June to open a new chapter in his country's uneasy relationship with its neighbour and mend ties that are often characterized by mistrust and tit-for-tat accusations.

In his message to mark Eid al-Fitr, the Muslim holiday that caps the fasting month of Ramadan, Ghani said he agreed to visit Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan after the two leaders met last week on the sidelines of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation meeting in Saudi Arabia.

"I hope the visit will be positive," Ghani said.

The Supreme Court has directed Maharashtra Government to hold a fresh round of counselling for students seeking admission to PG courses in medical and dental colleges. A vacation bench of the SC passed the order after many students approached the Court seeking direction on the issue.

The court has directed that the entire process of counselling for admissions to PG medical, dental courses for 2019-20 in Maharashtra be completed by 14 June.

BJP's Vijender Gupta Files Defamation Case Against Kejriwal and Sisodia

BJP leader Vijender Gupta on Tuesday, 4 June, filed a defamation case against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia for "maligning" his image after they accused him of being part of an alleged "conspiracy" to kill the AAP chief.

Gupta had also sent legal notices to Kejriwal and Sisodia a week ago asking them to apologise.

"I have filed a defamation case in Patiala House court against them (Kejriwal and Sisodia) as they did not reply to my legal notice," said the Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly.

He has already filed a police complaint against the chief minister and his deputy, alleging that they were tying to "falsely implicate" him in an alleged conspiracy to kill Arvind Kejriwal.
