Fuel Prices Continue to Soar

Fuel prices in Delhi reached a new high with petrol and diesel at Rs 83 per litre and Rs 74.24 per litre respectively, ANI reported.

Petrol and Diesel prices in Mumbai are at Rs 90.35 per litre and Rs 78.82 per litre, respectively.

One Terrorist Killed in an Encounter in Anantnag, Encounter Underway in Noorbagh

One terrorist has been killed in the encounter in Dooru Shahabad in Anantnag district, ANI reported. Firing has stopped and a search operation is underway, according to reports from ANI.

Another encounter is underway between security forces and terrorists in Noorbagh on the outskirts of Srinagar city, where 2 terrorists are believed to be trapped, the news agency said, adding that internet services have also been suspended.

BJP MLA Sangeet Som's Residence Attacked in Meerut

Unidentified miscreants opened fire at BJP MLA Sangeet Som’s house in Meerut, ANI reported. A hand grenade was hurled at the residence.

The MLA told ANI, “I have not received any threats. But yes, I had received a call two years ago that I will be killed with a grenade.”

Encounter Underway Between Security Forces and Terrorists in J&K's Budgam

Firing continues in Budgam’s Chadoora, where an encounter has broken out between security forces and terrorists, ANI reported.

Three terrorists are believed to be trapped in a building at the site of the encounter, the news agency added.

This is the third such encounter in the state on the same day.

US to Start Deportation Process from October, Respite for H1B Holders

From 1 October, the US would start implementing a new rule which allows initiation of deportation process of people whose legal status to stay in America has expired for reasons such as denial of visa extension application or change in status, officials said.

However in a relief to H-1B visa holders, a federal agency tasked with this said that for the time being this policy will not be implemented with respect to employment-based petitions and humanitarian applications and petitions.

Sensex Opens at 36,572, Nifty 11,067

Indian equity benchmarks swung between gains and losses ahead of the derivative expiry for the month of September.

The S&P BSE Sensex rose 31 points to 36,572 and the NSE Nifty 50 Index advanced 12 points or 0.1 percent to 11,067.

Fifteen of 19 sector gauges compiled by BSE were trading higher led by the S&P BSE Utilities Index's 0.8 percent gain. On the other hand, the S&P BSE Telecom Index was top loser, down 0.3 percent.

Civilian Killed During Cordon & Search Operation in Noorbagh

A civilian was killed during a cordon and search operation by security forces in Noorbagh area of the city on Thursday, a police official said.

Security forces had launched a search operation in the area following information about presence of militants there, the official said.

Some gunshots were heard during the search operation and later the body of a civilian, identified as Mohd Salim, was recovered, he added.

Six people have been arrested and 29 booked in connection with a clash that occurred between two Dalit groups at Nagla Bajurg village in Muzaffarnagar, police said on Thursday, 27 September, reported PTI.

SHO BP Singh said security has been tightened and additional policemen deployed in the village as a precautionary measure, PTI reported.

One person was killed and several were injured in a clash between two Dalit groups over a minor dispute in the village on Wednesday.

Two terrorists were killed in Budgam encounter, one of the three that broke out today morning in Jammu and Kashmir, ANI reported.

Foodpanda Expands to 13 New Cities

Online food ordering and delivery platform Foodpanda India said it has expanded its delivery network to 13 new cities as part of its expansion strategy.

The company's delivery network already exists in seven cities namely Bengaluru, Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune.

The 13 cities where Foodpanda has launched operations include Jaipur, Chandigarh, Kanpur, Lucknow, Indore, Ahmedabad, Nashik, Nagpur, Mysore, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam and Coimbatore, a company statement read.

Cbi Team to Dig Deeper into Louis Berger Scam

Six Central Bureau of Investigation officials on Thursday reached Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) office, to further inquire matters in connections with Louis Berger scam, ANI reported.

In July 2015, officials of the New Jersey-based Louis Berger admitted in a US court that they had bribed top officials in several countries to win government projects. These included water development projects in Goa and Assam, then ruled by the Congress.

Delhi HC Directs Govt to Fill Up Teacher Vacancies

Delhi High Court on Thursday, directed Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) and Directorate Of Education (DoE) to expeditiously fill up all teacher vacancies both in direct recruitment and promotion.

The court directed DoE and Municipal Corporation Departments to file status report on teacher vacancies.

The court announce that the next date of hearing on the matter will be on 4 March 2019.

Manipur Bandh Partially Hit Normal Life

A 48-hour bandh called by six students' organisations partially hit normal life in the state Thursday, PTI reported quoting officials.

According to the report, all shops in the busy markets of the capital – Paona and Thangal Bazaar were closed. Most vehicles were not plying and educational institutions remained closed.

The bandh was called by six students organisations from Wednesday midnight demanding "unconditional release" of 15 students and teachers of the Manipur University, who were arrested on 21 September on a complaint filed by newly-appointed Acting Vice Chancellor K Yugindro Singh.

Maldives’ President-Elect Invites Modi For His Oath Taking Ceremony

Maldives' President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend his oath-taking ceremony in November.

Solih's spokesperson Mariya Ahmed Didi said on Wednesday that Modi was invited to the ceremony during a telephonic conversation between the two sides following Solih's victory in the presidential elections on Sunday, The Edition reported.

He will be sworn in on November 17 and his term is expected to continue until 2023.

LeT Terrorist Killed in Anantnag; One Security Personnel Martyred

A LeT terrorist, Asif Malik, was killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag on Thursday, 27 September.

Two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists, Sheeraz Ahmad Bhat and Irfan Ahmad Dar, were also killed in Budgam earlier on Thursday. Happy Singh, a jawan of 19 Rrashtriya Rifles, lost his life in action during the encounter operation, according to J&K police.

Defiant Kavanaugh Vows Not to Withdraw From US Supreme Court

US Regulators Charge Tesla CEO Elon Musk With Fraud

The US Securities and Exchange Commission charged Tesla CEO Elon Musk with securities fraud, alleging he misled investors last month in tweets about taking the company private.

Musk tweeted on 7 August that he had "secured" funding to privatize the electric automaker at USD 420 a share, causing a brief spike in Tesla's share price.

The SEC said Musk's statements on Twitter were "false and misleading" and that he had never discussed the plans with company officials or potential funders.

Musk later said he later decided against the plan.
