The Chennai unit of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence sleuths seized 11.75 tonne Red Sanders worth Rs 5.28 crore from Chennai port, on Tuesday, 19 June. According to sources, based on specific intelligence, the DRI had mounted surveillance on suspected containers bound for Shanghai, China.
“The consignment was declared as ‘Rubber Hydraulic Hose’ with final destination as China. The containers were found on 8 June,” the officials said.
Meanwhile, officials held a detailed examination on Tuesday in the presence of forest officials and the examination revealed that the Red Sanders logs were stuffed inside the container. The DRI registered a case and are investigating.

A combined team of Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB) police and Imphal West district police on intervening night of 19 and 20 June, arrested eight individuals including Autonomous District Council (ADC) chairman of Chandel district with drugs worth over Rs 27 crore. The seized drugs include 4.595 Kg of Heroine worth above 13 crores and over 28 kg of World is Yours(WY) Amphetamine tables worth Rs 14 crore and Rs 57,18,000 in cash.
The ADC chairman has been identified as Lhukhoser Zou alias Shesei Zou, 51, of Phaicham Veng, Moreh ward number 2, Chandel. He is currently staying at the government quarter in Lamphel Imphal West.
He was elected as the member of district council from Congress ticket and later joined the BJP to form the local body government in Chandel.

More than 1.2 million fresh documents, at least 12,000 of them linked to Indians, have been investigated by The Indian Express, in collaboration with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung. Just as was done with the earlier set of over 11.5 million documents in 2016.

Jammu and Kashmir Police have detained a suspect in the assassination of senior journalist Shujaat Bukhari and his two personal security officers. Police sources, said they have not been able to find any tangible link between him and the attackers so far.
Police sources said Abdul Majeed Zargar, a resident of Saderkote Payeen in Bandipore, has been detained for questioning. Sources said that on the day Bukhari was shot, Zargar was with Zubair Qadri, another suspect who has been arrested, for the whole day.

Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia Wednesday, 20 June, said 36 people have been arrested in the case of lynching of two youths in Karbi Anglong district earlier this month.
Abhijit Nath (30) and Nilotpal Das (29), residents of Guwahati, were lynched in Panjuri Kachari village in Karbi Anglong on 8 June after local residents suspected they were “child abductors”.
“We are trying to ensure speedy chargesheeting based on scientific investigation so that the guilty do not go scot free,” Saikia told The Indian Express.

An inter-faith couple was allegedly harassed by an officer of the Passport Seva Kendra in Lucknow, where they had gone to complete their formalities on Wednesday, 20 June.
Mohammad Anas Siddiqui and his wife Tanvi Seth alleged that an officer named Vikas Mishra asked Anas to convert to Hinduism, instructed Tanvi to change her name in all her documents and yelled at her when she refused to do so. The shocked couple returned home and later tweeted to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, asking her to intervene.

A 29-year-old tattoo artist was arrested on Wednesday, 20 June, for kidnapping and raping a 14-year-old girl in Shahunagar.
According to the police, the accused took the minor to a shed, he had rented for making tattoos, and raped her. He claims he was under the influence of drugs. The minor, in her statement to the police, allegedly said on Monday night, her parents asked her to return from her neighbour’s house.

Shamli police on Wednesday, 20 June, registered an FIR against unidentified persons for allegedly dragging 16 cows and calves into a canal and pelting them with stones for damaging crops in Munket Kala village the previous evening. Police were acting on a complaint filed by Bajrang Dal’s western UP student wing president Vivek Premi, but said they were yet to confirm the allegation.
The FIR was registered against around 25 unidentified persons under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act at Adarsh Mandi police station. No arrests have been made so far. Police denied the possibility of the animals being taken to the canal for slaughter.

UP STF arrested 45 people from five districts for rigging the UP Police constable recruitment examination that was conducted on Tuesday, 19 June. While 23 people were arrested by STF in Meerut, 11 were arrested in Saharanpur, nine in Aligarh and one each in Shamli and Varanasi.
In all, 78 people have been arrested across the state in the crackdown since Sunday, 17 June, including both STF and district police units.
