A 25-year-old man, suspected to be a rickshaw puller, was killed by a few men on Tuesday, 21 August, afternoon in south-east Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar, the police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Chinmoy Biswal said the deceased, Dhani Ram, who used to stay under Defence Colony flyover was from Jharkhand.
The police received a call around 1 pm regarding a murder under Moolchand flyover. “The police reached the spot and found the dead body. The victim was wearing a grey pant and a blue T-shirt. He was probably a rickshaw puller,” Biswal said.

An RTI activist, whose petitions had led to action against quacks running illegal dental hospitals in Deoria, was on Tuesday, 21 August, shot at by five assailants outside his residence in Garurpura locality of the district.
Tahir Khan, 35, suffered multiple bullet injuries on his chest and stomach. He was rushed to district hospital from where he was referred to Gorakhpur’s BRD Medical College. Doctors said his condition is critical. Police said the bike-borne assailants fired at the activist and left the spot waving pistols in air.

At least nine thefts in the last fortnight have left residents of Suncity Township, Gurugram, worried. In the most recent case, theives broke into an apartment (F-109) and fled with cash and valuables on Monday, 20 August.
Police, however, said only three FIRs had been registered. The SHO of the Sector 53 police station said that police had no clues yet.
RWA members told TOI that their neighbourhood was becoming unsafe and blamed intruders who had been found drinking in the open in the township.

The police on Monday, 20 August, arrested a 46-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting his neighbour’s five-year-old daughter.
The police said the incident took place in a slum on Lal Nigam Road in Colaba on Sunday night. An officer with Colaba police said, “The accused took the girl to his house on Sunday night and sexually assaulted her. The girl then went home and told her mother about the incident.” The police said the girl’s mother then filed a complaint with them.

A man was arrested in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district on Tuesday, 21 August, for allegedly abducting, raping and murdering an 11-year-old girl “in rage” after her elder sister rejected his love proposal, police said.
According to police, Mukesh Lal alias Bunty, 22, who was of the same community and lived in the same neighbourhood in the village as the victim, had threatened to kidnap the girl he was interested in but not finding her at home on Friday night, took away her youngest sister. He has confessed to the crime, they added.

A security guard posted at the Defence Colony branch of a bank opened fire with his rifle and injured a customer on Tuesday afternoon. The accused got into an argument with the bank manager and allegedly tried to point the weapon at him. However, when the gun went off, the pellets hit the customer in his back and shoulder. The guard, a former Armyman, has been arrested.
DCP (south) Romil Baaniya said that around 1.30pm Vijaya Bank officials informed that a customer named Rajendra Singh had been injured in an incident. A police team from Defence Colony police station took the injured man to Moolchand Hospital. The accused, Rudra Pal Singh, was detained.Cops found six 12 bore cartridges in the rifle.

Chaos prevailed inside one of the barracks at Delhi Cantonment on Sunday, 19 August night when an Army personnel, carrying a sharp-edged weapon, allegedly tried to kill a colleague accused of raping his wife, police said. The drama ended after 30 minutes, with the man stabbing his colleague thrice with a khukri, before being caught by his other colleagues. Both he and his colleague were arrested, the latter on charges of rape.
Confirming the incident, DCP (southwest district) Devender Arya said they have registered two separate FIRs and have arrested both persons.

A 20-year old youth raped and murdered his five-year-old cousin and threw her body in a septic tank in a village in Jabalpur district, police said on Monday. The accused has been arrested.
Sub-divisional officer (police), Patan, Bhavna Maravi, said a man complained on Monday morning that his five-year-old daughter was missing and he was last seen with her cousin (son of his elder brother). Police questioned the cousin on suspicion and he confessed to raping and killing his five-year old cousin.

Twenty-three-year-old software engineer was found murdered at her house in Whitefield police station limits on Sunday night. Police suspect her boyfriend could be involved in the murder. The deceased is Vijayalakshmi, a native of New Delhi.
Police said, “Vijayalakshmi had come to the city about three months ago and was working in a software company. She had rented a house in Immadihalli in Whitefield and was living alone. The incident came to light on Sunday night when the house owner sensed a foul smell emanating from her house, located on the second floor of the building, and alerted the police.”
