Noida Police arrested 126 people on Friday, 21 December, for allegedly running a fake call centre in Phase-3 to dupe US citizens.
Around Rs 20 lakh in cash and more than 300 computers were recovered from the possession of the accused, among other equipment, said police.
Police said that the operators pretended to be social security officials of the US government. The operators would threaten the citizens that they would be arrested if they did not give their social security status, police said. Some of them pretended to be officers of the FBI and extorted money.

A 56-year-old man was stabbed to death on the roadside in Kalina’s Shastri Nagar area in broad daylight on Friday, 21 December. The police said the victim was attacked by three unidentified men while he was returning home after offering Friday prayers at a nearby mosque.
The deceased, Abdulla Khan, was a resident of Church Road in Kalina, Mumbai. On Friday, three men accosted him when he was riding home on his two-wheeler in Shastri Nagar, said police. They then threw chilli powder on his face and assaulted him, police said.
The police have registered a case of murder and procured the CCTV footage from the vicinity, in which the entire incident was captured.

Mumbai's Sakinaka police is investigating the mysterious disappearance of a 10-year-old boy, after his 15-year-old friend allegedly confessed to killing him.
On 22 December, the victim went missing, following which his parents received a call from an unidentified person demanding a ransom of Rs 5 lakh. The parents then approached the police, who registered a case of kidnapping.
The police started scrutinising the call data record of the cellphone number from which the call was made. “After we got the details of the caller, we brought him for questioning. It then came to light that the 15-year-old boy was involved in the crime,” said an officer.
Following this, the boy was brought to the police station. He allegedly confessed to killing the 10-year-old and disposing his body.

A lawyer allegedly attacked a senior lawyer outside the Nagpur District Court on Friday, 21 December, causing him grievous injuries, and later killed self by consuming poison, police said.
Lokesh Bhaskar allegedly attacked Sadanand Narnawre with an axe on the footpath outside the court around 4.30 pm and later consumed poison, a police official said.
Both were admitted to Mayo Hospital in the city where Bhaskar died, while Narnawre was undergoing treatment, said Inspector Hemant Kharabe of Sitabuldi police station.
It was yet to be ascertained why Bhaskar attacked Narnawre, he said, adding that further probe was on.

Three people, including a woman were killed in a clash over land dispute in Uttar Pradesh’ Pursapur village in the district on Friday, 21 December, police said.
The deceased were identified as Durga Singh, his wife Kamlavati and Munshi. As per reports, Durga Singh and Manohar Yadav had dispute over property.
On Friday, Durga Singh reached the site and unlocked the house and Manohar Yadav reached there with his armed accomplices.
After heated arguments with Durga, Manohar Yadav and his accomplices attacked him with sharp-edge weapons. Durga's wife Kamlavati rushed to save him but Yadav and his accomplice attacked her too.
Both the husband and wife died on the spot and the angry villagers reached the site in groups and attacked Manohar Yadav with sticks. Manohar later succumbed to his injuries at BRD medical college, police said.

A 24-year-old Nagaland youth who allegedly posed as an income tax officer and swindled a businessman of Rs 2.2 lakh was arrested on Wednesday, 19 December.
John Kajiche had called a resident of Nobo Nagar on Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru, on 14 December and introduced himself as an Income Tax officer. He asked the victim to click a link sent to his mobile for the purpose updating his Income Tax account.
Unaware about the consequences, the victim clicked the link, which sent an OTP approving a bank transaction to the fraudster. The victim realised that he was cheated when he received a message about Rs 2.2 lakh being debited from his bank account.

A 60-year-old doctor and a 44-year-old woman accomplice were arrested from a south Delhi hospital for allegedly running a prenatal sex determination racket, police said on Thursday, 20 December.
Dr Manoj K Ahuja, a radiologist, and Kavita were caught red-handed on 19 December at Jeewan Hospital by a joint team of pre-conception pre-natal diagnostic technique (PCPNDT) cell of Haryana and Delhi’s health departments, said police.
“Three ultrasound machines, Rs12,000 that the doctor took from a decoy customer, $76,101; 50 pounds, Rs 20.79 lakh, Rs 18,500 in old Indian currency notes and an envelope containing Rs1.32 lakh were seized from the ultrasound room of the hospital. Kavita was also caught in possession of Rs 14,000 that she had taken from the decoy customer. Ahuja is a visiting doctor at the hospital for the past 12 years. Kavita was his agent,” said Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast).
Jeewan Hospital Gate No-2 authorities refused to comment on the raid and the arrest.

A minor girl was who was kidnapped and pushed into flesh trade by her relative, was rescued by Hyderabad's Rachakonda police on Friday, 21 December.
The main accused, the victim's cousin and his wife planned to take her to a group of women to force her into prostitution.
The other accused were identified as Faridha Begum (36), Kethvath Krishnaveni (28), Theppollu Swaroopa (34), Pathlavath Padma (25), Dorolla Manjula (36) and Goda Radha (50), all residents of Jadcherla town of Mahbubnagar district.
Since 9 December, the minor girl went missing and her mother approached the police to file a missing case. The accused couple lured her and took her to Jadcherla town of Mahbubnagar district. Police, acting on reliable information, nabbed the accused couple and rescued the girl on Friday at Dilsuknagar.

A 24-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a man who recorded the act and tried to blackmail her, police said Friday, 21 December.
The incident took place in Uttar Pradesh’ Muzaffarnagar.
They said the accused befriended the woman through phone and called her at a hotel room here to meet her on 20 December. He allegedly gave her intoxicant and sexually assaulted her under its influence, they added.
A case has been registered against the accused, who has been absconding since the incident, police said.
