1. Mob Lynching Claims Life in Gujarat Town

A man was lynched and another critically injured after a mob in the tribal district of Dahod intercepted two history-sheeters and beat them up on suspicion of theft Saturday night, 28 July, police said. Police have registered a case of murder and rioting against 100 people.

The police said the two men had been released on bail from Dahod jail in a theft case only four days back. The officer added that a villager had called the police but by the time they reached the spot, the mob had badly thrashed the duo. “Vahonoiya died on the spot. Palas has been admitted to a hospital,” said Judal.

Police said that both Vahoniya and Palas have several robbery and theft cases registered against them. “Vahoniya was also accused in a double murder case,” said the police.

2. Trinamool Leader Killed In Bengal, Body Found In Septic Tank

Three people were arrested after the body of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader was recovered from the septic tank of a factory in Madhyamgram area in North 24 Parganas district in wee hours of Sunday, 29 July.

Police sources said Sudhir Das, TMC president of Madhyamgram municipality ward number one, was killed and dumped inside the septic tank of the factory where he worked.

“Injury marks were found behind his head and his hands were tied. We have sent the body for post-mortem and have started an investigation into the matter,” a senior police officer said. Police arrested the three people after Sudhir’s wife Mala Das filed a complaint at Madhyamgram police station.

3. Man Held for ‘Raping’ 7-Year-Old Niece

The Mumbai police arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting his seven-year-old niece in Santacruz on Thursday. The police said the accused was arrested from Pune on Friday, 27 July.

An officer from Vakola police station said: “The victim’s mother had gone out for some work on Thursday but when she returned home, she noticed that the accused was touching her daughter inappropriately.” The accused allegedly pushed the victim and fled from the spot. The victim’s medical examination confirmed that she was sexually assaulted.

The accused has been booked for rape under IPC and POCSO Act, said police.

4. Two Journalists Attacked By "Sand Mafia" In Punjab's Ferozepur

Two journalists on 29 July, were injured after being allegedly attacked by the sand mafia in Jalalabad sub-division Ferozepur, while reporting on illegal mining, police said. The journalists of a private news channel had received information that illegal mining was active in village Tharewala, they said.

As the duo reached the site and began recording the illegal activity, a group of unidentified people thrashed them and broke their video camera, they added. Bleeding profusely, the journalists managed to escape the spot and got themselves admitted to a private hospital for treatment.

They later lodged a complaint at the office of the deputy superintendent of police. DSP Sidhu said police had recorded the statement of the media persons and "will nab the accused soon".

5. Former Sarpanch Shot Dead, Five Booked

Former sarpanch and liquor contractor Suresh, alias, Babli, a resident of Punjab’s Anjanthali village, was on Sunday, 29 July shot dead by unidentified assailants. The police alleged that the murder took place due to an old enmity in the village.

Another person identified as Subhash, a resident of the same village, too received bullet injuries. The superintendent police (SP) constituted four teams headed by two DSPs; Rajiv Kumar and Virender Kumar to arrest the accused.

“I have assured the family members of the arrest of the accused at the earliest. I have constituted four teams to arrest them. The main accused, Krishan, is among the most-wanted of the district carrying a reward of Rs 25,000,” the SP said.

6. Dutch Tourist Alleges Rape Bid by Hospital Attendant

The police on 29 July arrested a male nurse, working at private hospital, for allegedly attempting to rape a 20-year-old Netherlands national, who was undergoing a treatment at the hospital. The accused has been identified has Ashish Roy, who works as a night attendant at the hospital.

From the reports, it is revealed that the night the girl was allegedly raped, she complained of some ailment after which she was hospitalised.

“On morning, she called her mother in the room and told her that the male nurse attempted to rape and molested her. Her father immediately informed the police, who reached the hospital and arrested the nurse,” said ADCP-2.

On victim’s statement, a case has been registered against the nurse under Sections 376 (attempt to rape), 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 511 (attempting to commit offences) of the Indian Penal Code at Civil Lines police station.

7. Man Kills Wife, 4-Year-Old Son in Haryana

A woman along with her four-year-old son was killed allegedly by her husband in Haryana's Fatehabad district, a police official said on 29 July.

The man, a plumber, aged around 26 years, used a hammer to kill his wife and then killed his son using a cutter, he said. The incident took place last evening in Haripura village.

"According to preliminary investigation, the man committed the crime on suspicion of his wife's character. They were married for the last seven years," the official said, adding that a case was registered against the accused on the complaint of the deceased's brother.

8. Couple Kill Themselves in South Delhi

A couple allegedly committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan of their house in Tughlakabad Extension on Sunday afternoon, 29 July. The man used to work at a factory in Okhla and was living in a rented house. His first wife too had committed suicide a few years back. Initial probe suggests that the couple had financial issues.

Deepak (40) and his wife Mamata (28) were found hanging in two different rooms. Cops have recovered a suicide note in which Deepak mentioned that he was taking his life and did not want to blame anyone.

The couple also have two children. It was later found that Deepak had sent his two children, Divyansh (11) and Tista (8), to his sister’s house on Saturday.

9. Man Arrested for Raping Daughter-in-Law

A man has been arrested for allegedly raping his newly-married daughter-in-law repeatedly and threatening her of dire consequences if she revealed the matter to anyone.

The matter came to light after the survivor mustered courage and shared her plight to one of her relatives after which the matter was reported to police. Acting on the complaint, Shyamla Hills (Bhopal) police registered a case of rape on Saturday, 28 July. Police said the accused has been taken into custody and the case remains under investigation.
