1. Bajrang Dal Worker Shot Dead in Noida, 3 Accused Arrested

A day after Bajrang Dal worker was shot dead in Noida, three people were arrested on Friday, 5 October said the police.

In the Noida case, a police officer said a complaint was filed by the family of victim Ajay Choudhary against eight people, six of whom were named. “Based on the family’s complaint, we have arrested three people. We are on the lookout for the rest,” said Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to the shooting, said Mr Sharma. “They have alleged that Ajay owed them ₹240 as gambling debt. Preliminary investigation has revealed that this might have been the reason behind the murder. However, we are still looking into the matter,” said the SSP.

The family, however, said Ajay was vocal against public gambling and that was the reason why he was killed.

2. Man Kills Waiter for Being Asked to Clear Bill

The area outside the bustling Prabhadevi railway station was witness to grim drama on 4 October, after a customer at a country liquor bar allegedly stabbed one of the waiters to death after an argument.

According to the NM Joshi Marg police, the incident occurred at the Red Rose country liquor bar outside the station around 11 am.

“One of the customers was heavily inebriated and the waiter attending to him, Ganesh Janavlekar asked him to settle his bill. The innocuous gesture of Janavlekar’s part angered the accused, who started arguing with him.

However, the accused in the heat of the moment, seized an ice pick and stabbed Janavlekar in the stomach.

The NM Joshi Marg police were subsequently informed and a case of murder was subsequently registered under the Indian Penal Code and initiated inquiries into the matter.

Officers confirmed that a suspect had been picked up on 5 October afternoon and was being interrogated.

3. Ahmedabad Firm’s Employee Arrested in Cryptocurrency Fraud

The Vadodara crime branch on Friday, 5 October arrested an employee of an Ahmedabad-based company, for cheating people of about over Rs 17 lakh.

The arrest has come days after 86 people had submitted an application at the Gotri police regarding a cryptocurrency fraud.

In the application, submitted on 2 October, the people had stated that the company, Brio Hydrophonics, had convinced them of investing virtual cryptocurrency in their firm which will be returned within four months at a value 10 times higher. The application had named six accused.

An FIR was registered against the six accused. The six have been booked under IPC sections 406 (Punishment for criminal breach of trust), 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 506 (2) (Punishment for criminal intimidation) and 120 (B) (Punishment of criminal conspiracy).

4. Woman’s Body Found Two Days After Crime, Man Held for Rape and Murder

A 30-year-old man was arrested on Friday, 5 October while hunt is on for two others, for allegedly gang-raping and killing a 25-year-old woman in Partapura area.

The accused is the maternal uncle of the victim, police said.

“The girl was not keeping well. On 3 October, the accused convinced her parents that he would escort her to a hospital in Meerut. While on their way to the health centre, he called the other two accused to Partapur flyover. They then offered the girl a drink which was allegedly spiked. When she fell unconscious, the three allegedly took turns to rape her,” said Ranvijay Singh, SP (city).

The girl’s body was recovered on Friday morning from a forest near Upledha-Mahrauli link road, police added.

5. Teenage Girl Dies in Sonipat Village, Honour Killing Suspected

In a suspected case of honour killing, a 16-year-old girl died under mysterious circumstances in a village in Haryana's Sonipat district, even as police on Friday, 6 October booked six persons of her family for her "murder".

According to police, the girl and a 19-year-old youth, who belonged to a nearby village, liked each other. They said the girl's family had objected to it.

Earlier, the mother of the girl accused the youth of raping her daughter following which the he was arrested. Police said after the youth was jailed, the girl had visited his home but the parents of the youth informed the girl's family and asked them to take her back.

On her way back home, the girl mysterious died on the intervening night of 2-3 October. Police informed that the youth's father approached the police alleging that it was "a case of honour killing" and accused the girl's family of killing her.

6. Woman Found Murdered, Spouse Missing

A 27-year-old woman was found murdered at her rental house in Bengaluru's Lakshmidevi Nagar, near Laggere, on Friday 5 October. Police suspect her husband had escaped after strangling her to death.

The couple, Kalpana and Ramesh, was garment employees. The incident came to light in the morning when Padmavathi, Kalpana’s mother, came to the house, said Nandini Layout police. She found her daughter lying dead and alerted the neighbours, who informed police.

Police learnt from neighbours the couple was fighting till 5am, but they did not intervene as they would have arguments frequently.

7. Teen in ICU After Schoolmates Beat Him with Cycle Chain in Classroom

A group of six Class 9 students of a Mumbai school assaulted a 16-year-old boy with bicycle chain and belts inside a classroom on 3 October, two days after he confronted them for teasing his younger brother.

The Shanti Nagar police in Bhiwandi have registered a case against the six suspects under IPC sections for criminal intimidation, voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace. No arrest has been made yet.

Rizwan Khan was rushed to Prince Aly Khan Hospital in Mazgaon in a serious condition. A doctor said Rizwan was admitted to the ICU with a head injury and abrasions on shoulder and forearm for ‘better observation’.

Sub-inspector Ganesh Wagh said, "we have registered a case and retrieved CCTV footage from the classroom...If the doctors’ certificate indicates something major (injury), we may add more charges against the suspects, who are minors.”

8. Man Held for Raping Minor Girl

An 18-year-old youth, who works as a vegetable seller in Gurugram, has been arrested by police for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl who lives in his neighbourhood, and blackmailing her with a video of the assault.

According to police, an FIR was registered on 4 October under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, and IPC section 506 (criminal intimidation).

In the complaint, the teenager’s father said that she confided in her parents only on 3 October revealing that the accused had sexually assaulted her around “10-12” days ago, and made a video of the incident.

“She told us that on Friday, 5 October he took her to his friend’s room and again did a wrong thing with her. When she tried to stop him, he threatened to show the video of the incident to everyone and kill her parents,” the complainant stated.

9. Woman Nabbed for Faking Rape Case

A woman from Gujarat was arrested on Friday, 5 October for allegedly trying to extort Rs 13 lakh from a man by threatening to implicate him in a false rape case, police said.

The 40-year-old woman had been allegedly trying to extort money from Balwinder Pal hailing from Ambala Cantt, a police official said.

"She was threatening to implicate him in false rape case if she was not paid Rs 13 lakh," the official said.

According to the complaint, Pal came in contact of the woman through a matrimonial website.

The woman started contacting Pal on phone and asked him to come Gujarat to meet her but he refused. In the meantime she started demanding money from him through someone known to her, who was stated to be a resident of Chandigarh, police said.

Police said that a case under relevant provisions of the law was registered against the woman and she would be produced before a court here on 6 October.
