1. 5-Year-Old Allegedly Raped by Neighbour

A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her 21-year-old neighbour in Ghaziabad on Monday, 23 July. The accused was arrested the following day, said police. According to police, a case has been registered against the accused under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The child was admitted to a hospital in Delhi, and police said that by next day evening, her condition was stated to be stable.

CO II Circle Officer, Manisha Singh, said, “The accused is a neighbour of the victim and lived in the same lane as her family. On the night of the incident, the child was sleeping with her grandmother. The accused entered the room, took her away to a ground nearby and raped her.”

2. Inter-Faith Couple’s Marriage Registration Bid Ends in Violence

A young inter-faith couple’s attempt to get their marriage registered was marred by violence on 24 July, when a mob assaulted the man, a Muslim. The violence took place before the couple could reach the registration office. Ghaziabad SP City Akash Tomar said, “By the time police reached, the mob had fled. We have taken suo motu cognizance of the incident and have registered a case against two named persons and several unidentified persons. Charges have been filed under Sections 323, 427 and147 of the IPC.” The charges relate to rioting and voluntarily causing harm.

According to police, the couple told them they had been in a relationship for four years. SHO of Sihani Gate police station Sanjay Pandey said, “Both are around 24-25 years old and have jobs in Noida. The man hails from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, while the woman is from Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh.” The incident took place outside the Sadar Tehsil in Ghaziabad around 2:30 pm.

3. 16-Yr-Old Gang-Raped, Forced into Prostitution

A 16-year-old girl was rescued from outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri after being sexually assaulted over a period of time by an acquaintance and his friends. The accused was also allegedly forcing her into prostitution.

DCP (outer) Seju Kuruvilla confirmed the developments and said that a 19-year-old youth has been arrested under sections of gang-rape (376D), causing hurt (323), criminal intimidation (506) and insulting modesty of woman (509) of the IPC, along with sections of the POCSO act.

A preliminary probe has revealed that the survivor lived with her father, and a neighbour had introduced her to the accused. The woman told cops that she was allegedly raped several times by the youth at his place. Later on, she was raped by several other men who knew the accused.

4. Mystery Shrouds Death of 3 Kids of a Family in Delhi

Three children of the same family died under mysterious circumstances in east Delhi’s Mandawali on 23 July. Police claimed that they have not found any injury marks on the bodies and are waiting for the postmortem examination report to ascertain the cause of deaths.

Prima facie, cops said, it appears to be a case of natural death but are suspicious as all three children fell ill together. A senior police official said the matter came to fore when they received a PCR call from the hospital, where the doctors informed them about the deaths of the children. Police claimed that they are questioning relatives in this regard as well.

5. Woman Raped in Madhya Pradesh on Pretext of Marriage

MP Nagar, Bhopal police booked a person for allegedly raping a 35-year-old woman on the pretext of marriage. Speaking to TOI, CSP Umesh Tiwari said that the woman, a widow and mother of five, works as a domestic help. She alleged that the accused Raj had befriended her a few months back. He has been sexually exploiting her ever since promising her marriage.

After a medical test of the survivor was conducted on Tuesday afternoon, police booked the accused under Section 376 of IPC but is yet to be arrested.

6. Teen Molested in UP, 1 Held After Clip Goes Viral

Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi district have arrested one of the three men who allegedly molested a 16-year-old girl and recorded the incident which was later uploaded on the social media, a senior officer said on Tuesday.

Jhansi superintendent of police Kuldeep Narain confirmed that the main accused was arrested Monday night. A case against the three men under sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act has been registered in Chirgaon police station for the incident that took place on 12 July.

7. UP Man Commits Suicide After Allegedly Killing Wife, 2 Minor Sons

A man killed his wife and two minor sons allegedly due to a strained relationship with her and later committed suicide, police said on Monday, 24 July. The incident came to light when the 12-year-old daughter of the couple informed her grandfather, following which the police registered a case, they said.

According to a statement issued by the office of the UP DGP, "Yesterday night, Madhav Murari Singh (a resident of Kushinagar district) killed his wife Suman, sons Mitram Singh (10) and Kannu Singh (two-and-a-half year). "There was a strain in the relationship between the husband and the wife for many days."

8. Youth Strangled to Death in Tamil Nadu

The Sembium police on Tuesday, 24 July arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly killing a 19-year-old youth, who was working at a fast food outlet. The suspect used a belt to strangle him to death and then slept next to the body till dawn.

The police said Durai was running a fast food outlet in Sembium. He engaged Jayaprakash, 19, of Ariyalur, a few days ago as a labourer. Two days ago, Durai went to his hometown and left his brother Rajesh, 24, in charge of the outlet. On his return, Durai scolded Rajesh for not running the outlet in a proper manner. Apparently, he gave him a dressing down in front of the employees, and Jayaprakash mocked him over this later.

Rajesh admitted to having committed the murder.

9. Woman in Kerala Kills One-and-a Half Year Old Daughter

In a shocking incident, a 40-year-old woman was remanded in judicial custody after she confessed to killing her ninth and youngest child, a one-and-a-half-year-old girl by throwing her into a swollen well at Eriyal here on Wednesday last.

The Kasaragod Town police have registered a case under the provisions of Cr.PC 174 (unnatural death). The accused Naseema, wife of Ahammed, a casual labourer, initially told the police that the girl had accidentally slipped into the partially covered well located in a barren paddy field in the downpour on Wednesday.

Later, the woman, during a three-day-long interrogation, confessed that she had thrown the baby girl, Ayishath Shamnaz into the well as she found it difficult to take care of her children.
