The teaser for Petta, starring Rajinikanth, directed by Karthik Subbaraj and with music by Anirudh Ravichandran is out! With no prior warning or tease on social media, it’s turned out to be the cutest surprise on Thalaiva’s birthday! The 1 min 32 second teaser features Rajinikanth in two new looks; one that is already doing the rounds, and a second one that has him sporting a handlebar moustache is typical Madurai style.
Petta also stars Trisha and Simran as leads, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vijay Sethupathy as the antagonists. The film is scheduled for a 11 January release.

The Chennai Police arrested two men under the POCSO Act for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a minor girl. According to the police, 21-year-old Mohan, had befriended the 14-year-old Chennai girl over the phone a few weeks ago.
After holding some conversations over the phone for a few weeks, the two allegedly got into a relationship. Mohan had promised the girl that he would marry her. On 7 December, Mohan came to Royapuram and with the help of his friend Vijay, took the girl to Vijay’s house in Andhra Pradesh. He sexually assaulted her and dropped her back in Chennai the same night. After the girl told the incident to her mother, her parents filed a police complaint. The two were arrested on Tuesday, 12 December, under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

In a disturbing incident at Kamaraj Government Hospital in Chidambaram, a rat bit off the nose of a dead body which was being kept in a damaged freezer at the hospital's mortuary. It was the second incident in recent months that highlighted poor conditions in government healthcare.
The deceased, identified as 22-year-old Vaitheeswaran who was a native of Thandeshwaranallur village near Chidambaram, had killed himself on Tuesday, 12 December. His body was taken to the government hospital for the post-mortem, and the body was left overnight in the mortuary. In the morning, friends of the deceased saw his body and were shocked to find that his nose had been bitten off.

The Madras High Court stated that no action can be taken against Kollywood director AR Murugadoss based on an FIR registered by the Chennai Central Crime branch, regarding a complaint about his film Sarkar. Justice Anand who gave this order further pointed out that in a democracy, people were allowed to comment on the government's schemes.
An FIR was registered against the filmmaker on Monday, 10 December, based on a 8 November complaint by a man named Devarajan, who claimed that Murugadoss' film Sarkar instigates violence. He was particularly critical of scenes in the film where the public were shown destroying freebies given by the government.

For 42-year-old B Kalaiarasi of Chennai, life became a struggle after her husband, R Balasubramanian, 53, an inspector with the Armed Reserve, became unwell and her son had to remain at home most of the time to take care of him. She has now been given employment by the Anns Forum Rotary International and the city police. She is the first Pink autorickshaw driver in the city.
The Rotary International District 3232 Anns Forum convenor Nallammai Ramanathan came up with the concept of Pink autorickshaws to empower downtrodden women. These autorickshaws will be driven by women and the first beneficiaries are wives of policemen. Male passengers, unless they are travelling with a woman, cannot travel in the vehicle.
