1. Vadodara: Plucky Cops Save 73 Locals Stranded in Floodwaters
In a daring rescue effort, sub-inspector Govind Chavda and his team of seven rescued 73 people stranded in their houses in flood-ravaged Vadodara.
When news of water from overflowing Vishwamitri entering Devpura reached Vadodara City police late on Wednesday night, a team of Raopura police station including Chavda was deployed to rescue people.
When they reached the spot, they found that the locals had climbed on the terraces of their half-submerged houses, waiting to be rescued. Without wasting time, Chavda jumped in the water and reached at the spot to bring them back to safety.
"Most of them were children and senior citizens. Will the help of some locals, we managed to build support using beds and started the rescue operation," said the PSI.

2. Surat: 16-Year-Old Boy Convicted for Rape of 5-Year-Old Sister
The Juvenile Justice Board of Surat on Thursday, 1 August, convicted a 16-year-old boy for the rape of his 5-year-old sister. The order, pronounced keeping in mind the reformation of the minor convict, sentenced him to 10 months’ stay in a special juvenile home.
The boy has also been ordered to work three hours daily for four months at an old age home. He must also enrol in a one-year vocational training course. The parents have been ordered to pay bail of Rs 15,000. The family members were present in court on Thursday when the judgment was delivered.
The trial was conducted by the Juvenile Justice Board under chairman MS Soni, as the accused is a minor. The accused was brought from the children’s remand home, where he had been kept since his arrest on 4 October, to the juvenile justice board when the order was pronounced.
The incident took place on 29 September 2018.
3. Petitions in Gujarat HC Challenge Notifications Declaring Areas in 4 Districts as ‘Disturbed Areas’
Four petitions have been filed in the Gujarat High Court challenging the notifications declaring areas in four districts in the state as ‘disturbed areas’. Although the petitions were supposed to be heard on Thursday, due to paucity of time it could not be taken up.
The four separate petitions challenging the notifications declaring areas in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Bharuch respectively disturbed” have been moved by Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind (Gujarat).
The petitions challenge the notifications issued under the ambit of Section 3 of the Gujarat Prohibition of Transfer of Immovable Property and Provisions for Protection of Tenants from Eviction in Disturbed Areas Act, 1991. The petitioner has submitted that the notifications were issued although the condition of issuance such notification never existed.

4. Stay Away From Schemes Floated by Fraudulent Firms, Says Official
Additional Chief Secretary of Finance, Arvind Agarwal appealed to people to stay away from investing money in illegal schemes floated by fraudulent companies and inform police if they come across any.
Agarwal was speaking at the 37th State-Level Coordination Committee (SLCC) meeting held in Gandhinagar on Tuesday, which was attended by officials from the Reserve Bank of India, Criminal Investigation Department, Finance Department and Registrar of Cooperative Societies.
SLCC is a joint forum that identifies illegal financial transactions and investments made by fraudulent companies and take preventive measures against them.
“I appeal to the people to identify such companies that offer money through illegal schemes. People should inform the police and RBI officials immediately about them if they come to know about it,” said Agarwal.

5. Ghost Story: Naroda Cops File Murder Plaint Against Dead Couple
Around 11 months ago, three members of a family were found dead in Naroda, with a three-page suicide note blaming “dark forces” for the deaths. However, investigations revealed that the parents had killed their 16-year-old daughter before committing suicide. The Naroda police, on Wednesday, lodged a complaint of murder against the parents.
As per police, Kunal Trivedi(45), Kavita Trivedi(45) and Shren Trivedi(16) were found dead in Avani Sky flats located near Surdharsan crossroad in Naroda on September 11, 2018.
Investigation revealed that on the fateful day, Kunal and Kavita had poisoned their daughter before hanging her to death. After killing their daughter, Kavita committed suicide by hanging herself, following which Kunal hanged himself using the same piece of cloth. The investigation also revealed that Kunal had even tried to kill his mother by giving her poison. However, she survived.
