1. Gujarat Receives Good Rainfall

In less than a week of the onset of monsoon in Gujarat, the state recorded 13 percent average rainfall till Sunday, 30 June, five percent higher than the same time of the year in 2018. This comes as a relief for the state that is among one of the most water-stressed states in the country.

Barring Central and Kutch areas, where the season’s rainfall was recorded at nine and six percent respectively, the remaining parts of the state received between 12 and 15 percent rainfall.

The progress of the monsoon, that arrived in Gujarat on 25 June, has been good compared to last year. The highest rainfall recorded in Saurashtra are in the districts of Gir Somnath at 28.89 percent followed by Bhavnagar 19.97 percent, Junagadh 19.09 percent and Amreli 18.40 percent. In the Southern belt, districts of Bharuch, Navsari and Surat recorded rainfall above 15 percent reaching 20.80, 17.14 and 15.25 percent respectively.

2. Probe Officials in VTMPS Scam: GMB Ex-Official Signed Certificate With No Authority

In the ongoing investigation in the alleged Rs 134-crore scam in contract of Vessel Traffic and Port Management System (VTPMS), the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Crime personnel said former Chief Nautical Officer (CNO) of the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) had signed a completion certificate for Aatash Norcontrol Limited (ANL), on which he had no authority.

Captain (retired) Sandeep Chandra Mathur, the CNO in 2010, signed a certificate of completion for setting up nine radar centres and a control room at Dumas in Gujarat. It was later found out that no control room was being set up at Dumas and ANL had shown an investment of Rs 134 crore, by procuring fake invoices from shell companies.

Mathur was arrested from Ahmedabad airport on Saturday, 29 June, by a team of CID Crime. Along with Mathur, five others, including an official of GMB, two directors of ANL and two owners of shell companies were arrested in the alleged scam.

3. Gujarat CM: ‘Prepare Blueprints for Development Projects’

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Sunday, 30 June, asked municipalities to prepare blueprints of development projects for their respective towns by engaging the public and assured that the state government would help the civic bodies execute those plans.

“The state government is striving to provide all facilities to cities in Gujarat and make them hubs of cultural activities. The state government has adopted a balanced policy of developing city-like amenities in villages while turning cities into smart cities. I appeal to municipalities to prepare blueprints of development projects for their respective towns by engaging the public. I assure that the state government would help implement the projects,” an official release of the state information department quoted Rupani as saying.

Rupani was addressing a public meeting after inaugurating a townhall in Gondal town of Rajkot district on Sunday. Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Jayesh Radadiya and BJP MP from Porbandar, Ramesh Dhaduk were present on the occasion.

4. Woman Blackmailed, Molested by Relative

A 34-year-old woman was molested by her relative, while she was alone at home. The accused grabbed her from behind. A complaint was lodged with the Sola High Court police station.

The incident took place on Saturday, 29 June, at around 11:30 pm at her residence in Chandlodia area. She lives with her husband and three children. The relative made advances while she was alone at home, the complaint stated.

Around four years back she had an affair with the accused, during which he took photographs and blackmailed her. In order to sort out the issue, on 29 June, she invited the accused home.

After having a conversation when the victim went inside the kitchen to fetch water, the accused followed her back and groped her. Even after she resisted, he refused to let her go.

5. Teen Molested by Neighbour in Saraspur

A 13-year-old girl was molested by neighbour on Saturday, 29 June. As per police reports, the accused is a 35-year-old man, who had come to visit his father.

The incident took place at around 6 pm in the Saraspur area of the city. The complaint lodged by victim's mother who works as secuirty guard in hospital, stated that on Saturday evening, while both parents were at work, the accused identified as Hasmuk Mafatlal entered the house while children were alone.

Soon the neighbours reached the spot and saved the girl. VD Vala, inspector stated, "Investigation revealed that the accused stays in Prantiji of Sabarkantha and had come to Ahmedabad to visit his father. At present he is absconding, and search for him is on."
