1. Cyclone Maha Weakens Into Depression
‘Severe cyclonic storm’ Maha weakened into a deep depression Thursday morning and was further reduced to a depression by evening, off the coast of south Gujarat in the east-central and adjoining northeast Arabian Sea.
As the cyclone weakened, it brought heavy rainfall Thursday morning, 7 November along coastal Saurashtra districts and a few districts in south and central Gujarat including Kheda, Anand, Panchmahal, Chhota Udepur, Vadodara, Narmada, Ahmedabad, Amreli, Gir Somnath, Junagadh, Surat, Tapi, Bharuch and Dahod.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the depression will weaken further into a well-marked low-pressure area over the northeast and adjoining east-central areas of the Arabian Sea off south Gujarat coast by Thursday night.

2. Rupani Calls Mamata ‘Divider Didi’ Over Jee Row
Slamming Mamata Banerjee's objection over the engineering entrance examination JEE being conducted 'only' in Gujarati besides English and Hindi, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Thursday, 7 November dubbed her "Divider Didi".
Taking to Twitter, Rupani also posted a link of a clarification issued by the National Testing Agency on the objection raised by the West Bengal chief minister.
"Dear #DividerDidi, people of your state need development not such divisive stunts. Now that the facts are out, you should apologise to the people for your lies!," Rupani tweeted.
On Wednesday,6 November Banerjee, in a series of tweets, asked why "injustice" is being meted out to other regional languages by conducting JEE (Main) only in Gujarati apart from English and Hindi.
"If Gujarati has to be there, then all regional languages including Bengali must be there," she said.

3. SC to Hear Plea on Elevation of Justice Akil Kureshi on 13 Nov
The Supreme Court on Thursday, 7 November said it will hear on 13 November the issue related to implementation of the decision of the apex court Collegium by the Centre on elevation of Bombay High Court judge Justice Akil Kureshi as the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court.
A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Deepak Gupta and Sanjeev Khanna said the matter will be listed on Wednesday and the chief justice-designate Justice S A Bobde would be a part of the two-member bench headed by the outgoing CJI.
“Post the matter 13 November, 2019, before a Bench comprising of The Chief Justice and Justice S A Bobde,” the bench said.
The apex court Monday posted the matter for today after the Centre informed that “administrative formalities” are required to be completed to implement the Collegium’s decision on elevation of Justice Kureshi.

4. Congress to Hold Week-Long Agitations From 8 November
Ahead of the third anniversary of demonetisation, Congress has launched a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party at the Centre and in the state, on issues of economy slowdown, unemployment and banking sector crisis and announced a countrywide agitation for the next one week.
Former Member of Parliament and Congress’ Gujarat in-charge Rajeev Satav attacked the BJP saying the party has been shown its place by the people in the recently held assembly bypolls.
“Gujarat has shown the way to India in its quest for independence in the form of Gandhiji and Sardar Patel. And now, it will be Gujarat itself which will show the way forward in today’s India,” Satav said.

5. Food Safety Check: Hotels, Restaurants, Canteens Directed to Have Open Kitchens
The Gujarat government has directed restaurants, hotels and canteens to have open kitchens so that people can watch what they are eating. In an order issued Thursday, 8 November, Hemant Koshiya, Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) commissioner said the notification shall be applicable for all restaurants, hotels and canteens selling cooked food in Gujarat.
They will have to remove the “no admission” or “no admission without permission” signs within two weeks and have transparent partitions for kitchens. In the case of complaints of any kitchen compromising on hygiene standards, the violator will have to pay fine upto Rs 1 lakh.
