Jharkhand High Court granted six weeks provisional bail to former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav on medical grounds on Friday, 11 May, reported ANI.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president has been convicted in three fodder scam cases by a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court at Ranchi since December 2017. The jailed politician had been undergoing treatment at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi.

Yadav was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) In New Delhi on 29 March for specialised treatment, and was discharged on 30 April. The hospital had said his condition had improved significantly, but the former Bihar chief minister alleged a “political conspiracy” behind his discharge.

The High Court decision comes after Yadav was released on a three-day parole on Thursday, 10 May. He then flew to Patna to attend his son's wedding on Saturday, 12 May.

Upon arrival in Patna, Yadav was given a rousing welcome by family members and supporters.

His eldest daughter and Rajya Sabha member Misa Bharti, elder son Tej Pratap Yadav – who will tie the knot on Saturday, and the youngest offspring and heir apparent Tejashwi Yadav were at the Jay Prakash Narayan Airport to receive their father.
