In one of South Kolkata’s busiest stretches, a 25-year-old woman was molested by her co-passengers on a late auto ride between the Dhakuria and Jadavpur police station on 13 May, Sunday, Times of India reported. After no one came to her rescue, the woman reportedly jumped out of the auto in front of Jadavpur Police Station.
A investigating officer at the Lake Police Station reportedly said four passengers were present in the auto.During the ride, the woman was reportedly touched inappropriately, with her clothes slit by a blade, the TOI report added. The auto-driver paid no heed to her demand to stop the auto.
According to TOI, the woman, who works for an NGO, had gone to attend a programme at Dhakuria’s Madhusudan Mancha with a friend. After her friend boarded the bus, she boarded an auto on Gariahat Road (south).
The Lake Police Station had registered a case on Monday under sections 354A and 354B of the IPC, which pertains to molestation, the daily reported. But the accused, including the auto driver, have not been arrested yet, the report added.
After watching the CCTV footage, police believe the auto involved could be one plying on the Garia-Golpark route since the auto operates on this stretch on a regular basis, the TOI report added. But no leads have emerged till now, the officer informed.
