Four days after the melee at Jadavpur University (JU), fashion designer-turned-BJP leader Agnimitra Paul lodged a complaint with the Kolkata Police cyber cell on Monday against a student, alleging that he had posted obscene comments against her on social media. Paul also met Governor Jagdeep Dhankar on Monday and submitted a letter to him.
This is in addition to an FIR she had lodged at Jadavpur police station on Friday, a day after Union minister Babul Supriyo was heckled by a section of students at JU, against unnamed persons, alleging she was subjected to physical abuse and molestation by an “unruly crowd” at the university in Kolkata. Paul had accompanied Supriyo to JU.

Satya Doctor Road in Kidderpore, which was closed for repairs over a week ago after residents blocked it, is unlikely to be opened before Puja, civic officials said on Tuesday.
Mayor Firhad Hakim visited the road on Tuesday to review the repairs.
The road, linking Karl Marx Sarani with the port area, was in a poor state and large containers would frequently topple while plying down the thoroughfare.
“Extensive repairs are needed. The water supply lines are being relaid. Besides, parts of the sewer network have to be cleaned and repaired,” said an official of the Calcutta Municipal Corporation (CMC).

Last week’s fire at Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd (HPL) that left 15 staffers injured exposed the lack of basic social infrastructure, such as a burn unit, in the industrial town, trade and industry representatives have said.
At a seminar organised by the Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) on Tuesday, participants expressed concern that the injured had to be rushed to Calcutta without administering primary treatment in Haldia.
They urged Haldia civic chief Shyamal Adak and local MP Dibyendu Adhikari to prod the state government into taking measures to set up a burn unit in the town. They pointed out that there are several factories dealing in petroleum products.

“Go and surrender”, a high court judge told the counsel for Rajeev Kumar while hearing an anticipatory bail plea moved by former Calcutta police chief.
Justice Subhashish Dasgupta, the junior judge on a division bench also comprising Justice Sahidullah Munshi, said so when the lawyer said the IPS officer was being “hounded like anything” by the CBI in the Saradha probe.
Moving the petition, Kumar’s counsel Debasish Roy alleged that CBI officials have been conducting raids in various places to take his client into custody. “The CBI is hounding (Kumar) like anything,” said Roy. At this, Justice Dasgupta said “Go and surrender.”

The following is a statement issued by Trinamul Congress secretary-general Partha Chatterjee on Tuesday evening:
The new governor, within 15 days of joining, has exposed himself that he is not a neutral person, by making politically biased statements against the government officers and government departments.
As per our Constitution, the state government is an elected body. So is the central government. But the governor is a nominated post and not an elected one.
As per the provision of the Constitution, the jurisdictions have earmarked the role of the state government and the role of the governor.
