Celebrated novelist and playwright Kiran Nagarkar, known for his books 'Cuckold' and 'Bedtime Story', passed away in Mumbai at the age of 77 on Thursday, 5 September.
He had suffered brain hemorrhage earlier in the week.
Nagarkar was born in a middle-class Maharashtrian family, and grew up in Pune and Mumbai. He began his career in literature at the age of 32 when he published his first book Saat Sakkam Trechalis (Seven Sixes Are Forty Three), in Marathi in 1974.
The last book that he wrote, ‘The Arsonist’, was published earlier this year.
Nagarkar, however, was among those accused of harassment during the wave of #MeToo allegations. Three women journalists in 2018 had accused him on social media of unwelcome physical contact.
Nagarkar had denied the accusations, Scroll reported.
