A complaint has been lodged against Mohammed Nisham, the 'beedi king' of Kerala, who is currently serving a life sentence, by his two brothers for running his business from inside the the Kannur jail and threatening them on phone. The complaint was filed before Thrissur Rural Superintendent of Police, R Nishantini.
Earlier in 2015, Nisham had rammed his Hummer into a 51-year-old security guard after brutally beating him. He was awarded life imprisonment by a Kerala court and was ordered pay Rs 71 lakh as fine for the murder in January this year.
His relatives handed over an audio clip of a telephonic conversation to the police where he can be heard threatening them.
Top police sources said the matter would be looked into by the director general of police, prisons. Meanwhile, a quick probe has been ordered as it is believed that a nexus between Nisham and police officers exist, giving him access to run his business.
