Senior journalist Sajeev Gopalan was allegedly assaulted by cops on Sunday near Varkala, Kerala. Gopalan, who works for 'Kalakaumudi' newspaper, is currently undergoing treatment in a local hospital.
He told the media, “They (police officers) were taking revenge for a story I've done for exposing their fault.”
According to Times Now, the scribe was working on a story regarding the alleged kidnapping of two girls, and the police had filed a report in the court favouring the accused party.
He was assaulted in presence of his wife and children outside his house.
Police have started a probe into the incident, P Asok Kumar, Thiruvananthapuram rural police chief, said:
Thiruvananthapuram district unit of Kerala Union of Working Journalists condemned the incident and submitted a memorandum to DGP Loknath Behera seeking speedy action. The Press Club also filed a complaint with the DGP and authorities.
