After a long and successful marriage of 53 years, Kochi-based couple, PM Jose, 80, and Leelamma Jose, 75 passed away within hours of each other on Wednesday, 6 December. They had celebrated their wedding anniversary on 15 November, just over a fortnight before their deaths.
According to a report in The Times of India, the couple’s family members said that Jose developed breathing trouble in the evening of Tuesday, 4 December, and had to be administered oxygen. He passed away early the following morning at 7:30 am. A few hours later, Leelamma, who was understandably also showing signs of distress, breathed her last at Lakeshore Hospital at noon.
The couple lived in the south-eastern suburb of Mulanthuruthy in Kochi where Jose, the founder of PMJ constructions, owned a shopping complex. Leela was a homemaker and a native of the Challakal family at Choondi in Aluva.
According to the report, family members recall the couple to be always together and smiling, in good and bad times.
“We are a very close-knit family. I have always seen my parents smiling and happy together though they would never express their emotions or love openly. But their actions spoke louder than words,” said the couple’s youngest son, Varghese Jose told TOI .
Other relatives remember Jose as being socially active, despite suffering from various ailments and was also a part of associations like the Rotary Club and Y’s Men’s Club of Kochi.
The couple is survived by two daughters and a son. The last rites will take place on Thursday, 6 December.
