Kejriwal Released From Detention, Says Fight for OROP to Continue

Kejriwal was detained after he expressed his desire to meet ex-serviceman Ram Singh Grewal’s family.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has been released from RK Puram Police station, after being detained over the suicide of ex-serviceman Ram Singh Grewal. Kejriwal was detained after he expressed his desire to meet Grewal’s family. Grewal had allegedly committed suicide over the One Rank One Pension (OROP) issue.

Upon his release he said that he will continue to protest until OROP is implemented. Earlier, it was reported that despite being released by the police, he had refused to leave the police station. However, Kejriwal said that he had been asked to stay back.

Was Kejriwal Detained Twice?

According to police sources, Kejriwal was detained around 7.45 in the evening and was released an hour later.

Kejriwal was detained from Lady Hardinge Hospital around 7.45 pm and brought to the RK Puram police station in south District, since there was no media or presence of political leaders there. We asked him to go at around 8.45 pm but he didn’t leave the police station

However, sources close to the Chief Minister said that the police initially allowed him to leave but detained him again.

The police allowed us to leave but the chief minister expressed his desire to meet the family of the deceased ex-serviceman. He also told the pilot of the police patrol that he was proceeding to the Connaught Place Police Station, but he was again detained.

Kejriwal had also tweeted from the police station stating that deputy CM Manish Sisodia had come to meet him. Sisodia was also detained at Parliament Street police station for close to ten hours and later released.
