The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Friday, 16 August, the petitions posing legal challenges to the Centre's decision to scrap provisions of Article 370 which abrogated special status to Jammu and Kashmir and subsequent measures putting restrictions on the working of media in the region.
Later in the day, the UN Security Council is scheduled to hold a closed-door meeting to discuss the Kashmir issue.
Meanwhile, a Raj Bhawan spokesperson the Jammu and Kashmir government secretariat and other offices will start functioning from Friday while easing of public curbs would depend on day's development after the 'namaaz'.

The Parliament had earlier this week given its nod to the legislation bifurcating the state, a bold decision that seeks to redraw the map and future of a region at the centre of a protracted militancy movement.
Three days after the far-reaching decision to abrogate the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 , Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a nearly 40-minute televised address to the nation on Thursday, 8 August, sought to assuage concerns of the people saying Jammu and Kashmir will not remain a Union Territory for long.
"As Jammu and Kashmir will see more and more development, I do not think it will remain Union Territory for long. Ladakh will remain a Union Territory," Modi said.
President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday gave his nod to the legislation for bifurcation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The two Union Territories – Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh – will come into existence on 31 October.
The President has given assent to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, a home ministry official said.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (a) of section 2 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 (34 of 2019), the Central Government hereby appoints the 31st day of October, 2019, as the appointed day for the purposes of the said Act," a home ministry notification said.
The UT of Jammu and Kashmir will have a Lieutenant Governor and the maximum strength of its assembly will be 107, which will be enhanced to 114 after a delimitation exercise. Twenty-four seats of the Assembly will continue to remain vacant as they fall under Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The current effective strength of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly is 87, including four seats falling in Ladakh region, which will now be a separate UT without a legislature.
Pakistan's Cabinet on Friday, 9 August, officially approved a slew of measures, including downgrading of diplomatic relations and snapping of trade ties, taken by its government in response to India's decision to revoke Article 370 and bifurcate the State of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories.
Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired the meeting of the Cabinet which discussed the situation in Kashmir.
"Those measures among others include snapping the trade ties and downgrading the diplomatic relations," she said.
Pakistan also announced that it will suspend the Thar Express train service with India which links the two countries across the Rajasthan border, a day after it stopped the Samjhauta Express.
The government has also banned the screening of Indian films in the country's cinemas.
Schools in Jammu reopened on 10 August, and will stay open, ANI reported. This happened a day after Section 144, prohibiting the assembly of groups of four or more people, was lifted in the area.
Amid reports of section 144 being lifted in Jammu, more reports have of civilians injured by pellet guns, many feared blinded, have emerged from Srinagar.
The Wire and HuffPost reported that Srinagar’s SMHS hospital has been receiving a steady stream of civilians with pellet gun injuries. Many civilians have lost eyesight in one eye, and in some cases both eyes, the reports said.
The reports also quoted anonymous officials as stating that despite the majoritarian media’s representation of Kashmir being peaceful, sporadic protests have been reported from parts.
ANI reported that the Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry has urged a normalization of relations between India and Pakistan through bilateral talks.
“Russia is a consistent supporter of normalization of relations between India and Pakistan.We hope that the differences between them will be resolved by political and diplomatic means on a bilateral basis,” the statement concluded.

Federal Minister for Postal Services and Communications Murad Saeed said on Friday, 9 August, that in line with the decisions of the National Security Committee (NSC), the government has suspended the Dosti (friendship) bus service between Lahore and New Delhi.
As tension between India and Pakistan escalates over scrapping of special status to Jammu and Kashmir, Islamabad has hastily reactivated nearly a dozen terror camps in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and close to the International Border along Jammu and Kashmir, IANS reported.
During the past week, hectic movement of terrorists has been seen around these camps which were almost shut in the wake of May 2019 deadline set up by Financial Action Task Force (FATF), an inter-governmental body based in Paris.

As per notification SRO928 of 2019, all kind of exports to India have been suspended by amending the Export Policy Order 2016.
Through the other notification - SRO927 - by amending the Import Policy Order 2016, the government has banned import of goods of Indian origin or those imported from it. Earlier, this ban was only limited to imports from Israel.
A Kashmiri lawyer has moved the Supreme Court challenging the Presidential order that revoked Article 370, which granted a special status to Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
Advocate Shakir Shabir in his petition claims that the Presidential Order which resulted in the revocation of J&K's special status, could not have been amended without the concurrence of the state Assembly and was ultra vires the Constitution.
The plea contended that the approval of the state Assembly reflected the will of the people, which was required before effecting such sweeping changes that altered the history and geography of J&K.
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday called up Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and talked to him about India's moves on Kashmir.
During the call, Imran Khan strongly condemned the abrogation of special status of Jammu Kashmir. He accused India of violating the UN resolution and said that Islamabad rejects the decision of India altogether.
He also asserted that the global community should play a role in preventing India from taking "irresponsible actions", and that Kashmir is a globally recognised disputed area and its status cannot be changed by any unilateral decision of India, Pakistani media reported.
King Hamad said that Bahrain is closely analysing the situation in Kashmir and added that all issues will be resolved through negotiations.
China intends to support Pakistan in the UN Security Council (UNSC) over the Kashmir issue, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Friday after meeting with his counterpart Wang Yi and other senior officials.
Qureshi, who arrived in the Chinese capital early Friday to hold consultations in the wake of India revoking special status of Jammu and Kashmir, apprised officials in Beijing about Pakistan's concerns and reservations.
In an "urgent visit to the ally nation", Qureshi met with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, and informed the latter of India's "illegal move". The two held talks for two and a half hours, Pakistani media reported.
Addressing the media following his meeting with Wang, Qureshi said Pakistan had decided to go to the UNSC over India's "shocking move" and that Beijing would fully support Islamabad.
The National Conference on Saturday moved the Supreme Court, challenging the Presidential Order on Article 370 that revoked Jammu and Kashmir's special status.
The petition filed by NC leaders Mohammad Akbar Lone and Hasnain Masoodi sought a direction from the apex court to declare the Presidential Order relating to Article 370 as "unconstitutional, void and inoperative" in Jammu and Kashmir.
The NC also sought to declare the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 as "unconstitutional".
Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik said, “We are preparing for Eid. We are ensuring that maximum facilities are provided to the people. People should celebrate Eid without fear, and peacefully,” according to ANI.
Army commander Lt Gen R P Singh visited the forward areas along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Pathankot to review operational preparedness.
Singh, Officiating Western Army Commander visited Yol Cantt and forward areas of Rising Star Corps on his maiden visit and also reviewed the current situation there.

As the lockdown in Jammu and Kashmir enters its sixth consecutive day following the abrogation of Article 370 in the state, pictures and videos of National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval meeting locals in a market in Anantnag have emerged.
The Editors Guild of India on Saturday, 10 August expressed deep concern over the continued shutdown in communication links with the Kashmir Valley and the consequent curtailment of the media’s freedom and ability to report fairly and accurately on current developments.
“While some visiting journalists may be able to file their reports once they are out of the Valley, the lockdown is almost total and draconian for the vibrant local media that are the first eyes and ears on the ground,” the statement by the Guild said.
“It (the government) owes it to the people of India, including all in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, to allow the press, a vital institution of democracy, to function freely,” the statement said.
“The Guild underlines the imprudence in creating an unfair distinction in the treatment: for access, curfew passes, communication between local journalists and those coming in to report from outside. All journalists and all Indian citizens are entitled to equal freedoms,” it added.
A petition was on filed on Saturday by an editor of a prominent daily from Jammu and Kashmir in the Supreme Court seeking removal of restrictions imposed on working of journalists in J-K after scrapping of provisions of Article 370.
Anuradha Bhasin, Executive Editor of Kashmir Times, has sought directions for restoration of all modes of communication to enable the media to function in Jammu and Kashmir.
The editor in the petition said she is seeking a direction for the Centre and the administration of Jammu and Kashmir to immediately relax all restrictions on freedom of movement of journalists and media personnel in Kashmir and some districts of Jammu.
DMK President MK Stalin said that an all-party meeting was convened to discuss the situation in J&K.
“Today all-party meeting was convened to discuss Kashmir issue after scrapping of Article 370. A decision has been taken to urge union government to immediately send an all-party leaders' delegation to Kashmir so that they can interact with people there,” he told the media.
“No firing incident has taken place in Kashmir over 6 days,” Jammu and Kashmir police tweeted on Saturday night minutes after Rahul Gandhi claimed that the condition in the region has deteriorated.
Speaking in Chennai, Home Minister Amit Shah, reiterated his stand on Article 370 and said, “As a legislator, I firmly believe Article 370 should’ve been removed long ago. As a Home Minister, there was no confusion in my mind about the consequences of removing Article 370. I am confident terrorism in Kashmir will finish and it’ll move ahead on the path of development now.”
Film actor Rajinikanth lauded Home Minister Amit Shah for abrogating Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and described the Narendra Modi-Shah duo as “Krishna and Arjuna.”
“My heartfelt congratulations to Amit Shah for Mission Kashmir. Hats off,” he said here at the release of a book chronicling the two years of Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu in office.
Prime Minister Modi and Shah were like Lord Krishna and Arjuna, he said.
Ahead of Eid on Monday, 12 August, curfew has been reimposed in some parts of Kashmir, sources told The Quint.
The Indian government has cancelled the Samjhauta Express, which runs between Delhi and Attari in India and Lahore in Pakistan, on Sunday, 11 August. The government said the decision has been taken after Pakistan suspended operations on its side.
Pak suspended the Samjhauta Express and the Thar Express trains amid tensions between the two neighbouring countries after the government revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and divided the state into two Union territories.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Sunday said 300 special telephone booths are being established to help people communicate.
In an advisory, it said that liaison officers have also been activated in various areas, including Aligarh and New Delhi, to help students from Jammu and Kashmir communicate with their families.
As people fly back to Kashmir in time for Eid-ul-Azha, reaching home from the airport is a struggle of its own.
Passengers at the Srinagar International Airport were seen on Sunday desperately searching for taxis even as they remained apprehensive about their journey ahead in the valley which was under restrictions with communication lines snapped since August 5.
While some buses were on standby, they were only ferrying passengers to the tourist reception centre at Dalgate.
Some people tried to negotiate and request the taxi drivers, but they refused to go to areas like Civil Lines area at Lal Chowk, located 14 km from the airport, and downtown city, complaining that on their return journey they were detained or harassed by security forces.
Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday, 11 August, said, according to Hindustan Times, “Even as an MLA in Gujarat, I was in favour of the abrogation of Article 370 according special status to Kashmir. As such, I was unwavering and after becoming the Home Minister, I entertained no confusion about scrapping it and its impact.” He was speaking at the launch of a book on Vice Presient Venkaiah Naidu’s two-year term in office titled "Listening, Learning & Leading”.
Speaking in Chennai on the abrogation of Article 370, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Sunday said, “Had there been a Hindu majority in Kashmir, BJP wouldn't have touched it, but because there is a Muslim majority in Kashmir, they abrogated it.
Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has said that that the government needs to be careful in handling J&K.
“Refer to the international media & see what is happening in Kashmir. They have burnt their hands in fire, saving Kashmir is our primary focus. I appeal to Modi ji, Amit Shah ji and Ajit Doval ji to be careful otherwise we will lose Kashmir,” news agency ANI, quoted him as saying.
Amid tension and vigil in J&K, devotees offered prayers in Jammu on the occasion of Eid-al-Adha
Principal Secretary Planning (J&K) Rohit Kansal is expected to brief the media in Srinagar on Monday morning.
CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury on Monday alleged that the people of Kashmir have been kept "imprisoned" in their own homes and warned the government that the impact of changing Jammu and Kashmir's status would be felt in other states with special status.
While greeting people on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, Yechury, who along with CPI general secretary had been denied entry into Srinagar on Friday, said he still didn't know the condition of his party colleagues in Kashmir.
Amid the ongoing tensions with Pakistan over the abrogation of the Article 370, Pakistani forces have started moving equipment to their forward bases close to Ladakh.
"Three C-130 transport aircraft of the Pakistan Air Force were used on Saturday to ferry equipment to their Skardu air base opposite the Union Territory of Ladakh. The Indian agencies concerned are keeping a close eye on the movement of Pakistanis along the border areas," government sources told ANI.

News agency ANI reported quoting sources that on occasion of Edi, no sweets were exchanged along the international border between Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistani Rangers.
BSF wanted to give sweets to Pakistani Rangers but they did not send any reply in this regard, ANI reported.

NSA Ajit Doval on Monday did a recce of entire Srinagar, including downtown, Soura, Pampore, Lal Chowk and Hazratbal. He also visited other areas like Pampore, Budgam and South Kashmir districts of Pulwama and Awantipora.
DTC on Monday cancelled the Delhi-Lahore bus service as Pakistan has decided to discontinue it in the wake of India revoking Jammu and Kashmir's special status, said a senior official of the public transporter.
On Saturday, a senior Pakistani minister has announced to suspend the friendship bus service from Monday.
A Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus was scheduled to leave for Lahore on Monday 6 AM. However, it did not leave due to the Pakistan's decision to suspend the bus service, the official said.
The Srinagar-based CRPF helpline – 14411 – has been re-activated for people, especially Kashmiris, who require help for their families or are in distress post the decision to revoke provisions of Article 370, officials said on Monday.
They said the standard five-digit landline number of the 'madadgaar' helpline has been restored after it went inactive due to the communication clampdown in the Kashmir Valley.
Over 500 calls have been received on the helpline number since late Sunday, they said.
Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Monday asked Opposition parties to come together on Kashmir, saying the country should have a united stand on the issue.
Addressing the media in Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) where he celebrated Eid al-Adha and visited a refugee camp, Qureshi said the entire "Pakistani nation and political leadership is united on the issue of Kashmir and one voice will be sounded on 14 August in support of Kashmiris."
Pakistan has announced that it will observe 14 August as 'Kashmir Solidarity Day' and 15 August as 'Black Day' after India scrapped Article 370 of the Constitution and bifurcated J&K into two Union territories.
Qureshi said that Prime Minister Imran Khan would visit PoK on 14 August and also address its legislative Assembly.
Barring stray protests, Eid-al-Adha prayers on Monday morning at various mosques in Jammu and Kashmir concluded peacefully, officials said, but the festive buzz was missing with curfew-like restrictions in place across the state.
According to the Union Home Ministry, people came out in good numbers to offer Eid prayers and namaz was offered at prominent mosques in Srinagar and Shopian.
Speaking about the Eid celebrations in Kashmir on Monday, The Quint's reporter Poonam Agarwal, who is in Srinagar currently, said that people were restricted and restrained from going to many places.
"It was difficult... They offered prayers in the mohalla (neighbourhood) mosques. In the morning from 6 am, I have seen that restrictions were there in many places, cars were not allowed. And especially, at 8 am, after offering their prayers, people were stopped at many places so that they don't assemble. Security was very tight in the morning," she said.
Despite slight relaxation after around 11 am, the situation is still very bad in Srinagar, especially in downtown, she further pointed out.
Addressing a press conference on Monday evening, J&K Principal Secretary (Planning Commission) Rohit Kansal said the state had an "extremely peaceful and relaxed Eid". He further denied that any firing incident has happened in Jammu and Kashmir, saying:
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, SP Pani was quoted by ANI as saying, "We just had a couple of minor localised incidents of law and order, which were handled very professionally. In these incidents, there were only a couple of injuries reported and otherwise, the situation in the entire valley is normal."
The customary exchange of sweets between the BSF and Pakistan Rangers along the International Border did not take place on the occasion of Eid on Monday as the neighbouring country refused to send its personnel, officials said.
There has been fresh strain in ties between India and Pakistan after the government scrapped special status to Jammu and Kashmir, with Islamabad unilaterally downgrading diplomatic relations.
Pakistan has initiated multiple efforts to "redress" the situation in Kashmir and will support the Kashmiri people "whatever effort it takes," Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa said on Monday, reported PTI.
“Government has initiated multiple efforts to redress Kashmir crisis,” Bajwa said while celebrating Eid with the Pakistani troops on the Line of Control in the Bagh sector.
“Our resolve to solve the Kashmir dispute is as strong as desire for peace,” he was quoted as saying by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media arm of the Pakistani Army.
Speaking on the effective revocation of Article 370, former PM Manmohan Singh on Monday said, "Its outcome is not to the liking of many people of our country and it's important that voices of all these people be heard. And it is only by raising our voice that we can ensure that in the long run, the idea of India prevails."
J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik on Monday hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his remarks that there have been reports of violence in Kashmir, saying he will send him an aircraft to visit the Valley and observe the ground situation.
The governor said Gandhi should feel ashamed about the behaviour of one of his leaders who was talking like an "idiot" in Parliament.
"I have invited Rahul Gandhi to come here. I will send you a plane, to observe (the situation) and then speak up. You are a responsible person and you should not speak like this," Malik said.
Four Twitter handles were suspended for allegedly spreading anti-India propaganda on Jammu and Kashmir following a request by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Four more accounts are expected to be blocked soon for allegedly being engaged in similar activities, they said.
When contacted, a Twitter spokesperson said, "We do not comment on individual accounts for privacy and security reasons. Legal requests made to Twitter are published twice-yearly in our Twitter Transparency Report."
The action has been taken as the Twitter accounts were allegedly spreading false and baseless propaganda against India on Jammu and Kashmir, the officials said.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah might airdash to Srinagar to unfurl the Tricolour at Lal Chowk on Independence Day, 15 August, news agency IANS reported.
However officials at Jammu and Kashmir police headquarters have not yet confirmed Shah's much-awaited first visit after the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two separate Union Territories. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, currently monitoring the situation in the Valley, might also be present at Lal Chowk on Independence Day, sources said.
In New Delhi, sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs said Shah's visit to the Valley is expected, but exact dates cannot be shared with the media at the moment.
US President Donald Trump has made it clear that his offer of mediation on Kashmir is not on the table anymore, a top Indian diplomat said on Monday.
India's Ambassador to the US, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, said that America's decades-old policy on Kashmir has been no mediation but to encourage India and Pakistan to resolve their differences bilaterally.
"President Trump has made it very clear that his offer to mediate on Jammu and Kashmir is dependent on both India and Pakistan accepting it. Since India has not accepted the offer of mediation, he has made it clear that this is not on the table anymore,” Shringla told Fox News, the favourite news channel of the US president.
On 22 July, during his joint media appearance with Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan at the White House, President Trump stunned India by saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi sought his mediation/arbitration on the Kashmir issue.
Restrictions have now been relaxed in nine districts in the Kashmir valley, Prasar Bharati reported on Tuesday.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat said, “If the adversary wants to activate the LoC, that's his choice. Everybody does precautionary deployment, we should not get too concerned about it. As far as the Army and other services are concerned, we have to be always prepared.”
The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that it will consider urgent listing of plea moved by Anuradha Bhasin, the Executive Editor of Kashmir Times challenging the restriction on working journalists in the Kashmir valley in the wake of the revocation of Article 370.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat said that Army wants its relationship with the local people to be like what it was in the 70s and 80s.
“The bonhomie we had with people in the 70s-80s, we want the same again. We were deployed there, and we used to meet without guns, and if everything goes well, we will again meet without guns,” he said.
The Election Commission held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss different aspects of delimitation of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
Jammu and Kashmir Principal Secretary (Planning Commission) Rohit Kansal on Tuesday said that dress rehearsals for Independence Day celebrations are underway in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
A day after Jammu & Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik hit out at Rahul Gandhi for his remarks that there have been reports of violence in J&K, asking him to visit the state, the Congress leader on Tuesday, 13 August tweeted accepting his offer.
"I have invited Rahul Gandhi to come here. I will send you a plane, to observe (the situation) and then speak up. You are a responsible person and you should not speak like this," Malik had said.
The Supreme Court has refused to pass any order against the communication clampdown prevailing in Jammu & Kashmir. Adjourning the PIL for two weeks, the apex court said the government should be given some time to normalise the situation.
Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has asked Pakistanis to not live in a "fool's paradise" by expecting United Nations Security Council to "wait with garlands" to support Islamabad's contentions regarding India's decision to end Jammu and Kashmir's special status.
"Giving vent to emotions is easy and raising objections is much easier. However it is difficult to understand the issue and move forward. They are not waiting for you with garlands in their hands. Any members out of the P-5 nations can be a hurdle... Do not live in the fool paradise," said Mr Qureshi during a press conference aired on PTV on Sunday.
Mr Qureshi's comment came a day after Russia becomes the first P-5 member to support India over the abrogation of Article 370. It said all action taken by India was under the constitutional framework.

Pakistan has formally called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss India's move to revoke the special status to Jammu and Kashmir, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Tuesday, 13 August.
In video message, Qureshi said that he sent a formal letter to the president of the UNSC through Permanent Representative Maleha Lodhi to convene the meeting.
Qureshi said that the letter will also be shared with all members of the UNSC.
"I have requested in the letter that a special meeting of the Security Council should be called to discuss those actions of India which we consider as illegal and against the UN resolutions," he said.
Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Tuesday lashed out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for putting "pre-conditions" for a visit to the state and alleged he was trying to "create unrest" by seeking to bring a delegation of opposition leaders.
Hitting back at the governor for "taking a U-turn" on his offer to visit the state, the Congress said he should stand by his word.
Malik said he had never invited the Congress leader with "so many pre-conditions" and has referred the matter to the local police and administration for further examination.
Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Wednesday hit out at Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik, saying his invitation to Rahul Gandhi to visit the state was a "tool of propaganda" and never sincere.
He said alleging that Rahul Gandhi has put conditions is rubbish, as he only asked for freedom to meet everyone, including soldiers.
"J&K Governor's invitation to Rahul Gandhi was never a sincere invitation. It was a tool of propaganda.To say that Rahul Gandhi put conditions is rubbish. Rahul Gandhi asked for freedom to meet everyone, including soldiers. How is that putting conditions?," he asked on Twitter.
"Can a visitor not ask for freedom to meet different sections of the people and to enquire about the welfare of the soldiers?," he further asked.
Speaking to media, Munir Khan, J&K Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order briefed on the restrictions imposed in the region.
“Restrictions have been lifted in Jammu, schools & other establishments are functional. In Kashmir, restrictions at certain places are in place. Restriction aren't imposed in a generalised manner,” he said.
Speaking to media, Munir Khan, J&K Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order said that the law order situation is “totally under control”.
“There have been localised incidents in various parts of Srinagar district and other districts, which had been contained&dealt with locally. There have been no major injuries,” he said.
Mashaal Malik, wife of arrested separatist leader Mohammad Yasin Malik, addressed a flag hoisting ceremony in Islamabad, on Pakistan's Independence Day on Wednesday, news agency ANI reported , quoting Pakistani media.
Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday said this year's Independence Day will be celebrated with "much more enthusiasm" in view of the Centre's decision to revoke Jammu and Kashmir's special status.

Pakistan PM Imran Khan on Wednesday vowed to become the voice of Kashmir and raise the issue at every global forum, including the United Nations, as he questioned the silence of the international community on the situation in the region.
Addressing a special session of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir's Legislative Assembly in Muzaffarabad, Khan said that if a war breaks out between Pakistan and India, the world community will be responsible.
"The world's eye is on Kashmir and on Pakistan...I will be the ambassador who raises Kashmir's voice at every international forum," he said.
A security, and law and order review meeting chaired by NSA Ajit Doval was held on Tuesday in Srinagar. The meeting was attended by K Vijay Kumar, advisor to governor, Lt General Ranbir Singh, Lt Gen KJS Dhillon, DGP Dilbag Singh and Chief Secretary B Subramaniam, among others, reported ANI.
Briefing the media on Wednesday, J&K Principal Secretary Rohit Kansal said there would be some restrictions in the state for Independence Day. "The overall security situation continues to be calm. There have been no major reports of any untoward incident," he said.
On the detention of J&K People's Movement leader Shah Faesal, Kansal said, "Any detention or arrest is based on local assessment of law and order requirement, and taken accordingly. We will not comment on individuals."
Ahead of Independence Day celebrations, the Army and BSF have been put on high alert to step up vigil along the Indo-Pak border, officials said on Wednesday.
In Jammu region, police has also been put on high degree of vigilance in most of the districts amid intensification of frisking and checking in Jammu city, they said.

The Indian Army on Tuesday night foiled a major infiltration attempt by terrorists backed by the Pakistan Army in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir, army sources cited by ANI said on Wednesday. The infiltration push was backed by heavy firing from Pakistan Army posts, they said.
Needling India, Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday said the reality of Kashmir was neither changed by an "illegal piece of paper" in 1947 nor by any action "now or in future."
"There can never be a compromise on Kashmir," Gen Bajwa said in his Independence Day message to the nation, according to a tweet by the director general of Inter-Services Public Relations.
Speaking about the effective revocation of Article 370, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said the process of scrapping it was wrong. She went on to ask about the whereabouts of the three former chief ministers of J&K.
Banerjee added that one of the former CMs called her a day before the scrapping of the special status, saying they were scared and asking for her support in the face of any trouble.
“It’s unfortunate that I couldn’t stand in solidarity with them. Though not physically, our mind is always with them,” she said.
China has asked for "closed consultations" in the UN Security Council to discuss India revoking the special status to Jammu and Kashmir after Pakistan, Beijing's closest ally, wrote a letter on the issue to Poland, the Council President for the month of August, a top diplomat said.
The UN diplomat told PTI that a request for such a meeting was submitted very recently, but no date has yet been scheduled for it.
"China asked for closed consultations on the Security Council agenda item 'India Pakistan Question'. The request was in reference to the Pakistani letter to Security Council President," the diplomat said.

After Pakistan and China urged the UN Security Council to hold meetings to discuss the Kashmir issue, Poland, which currently holds the council's rotating presidency, has listed the matter for discussion at 10:00 am (1400 GMT) on Friday, 16 August, diplomats told AFP.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Friday, 16 August, the petitions posing legal challenges to the Centre's decision to scrap provisions of Article 370 which abrogated special status to Jammu and Kashmir and subsequent measures putting restrictions on the working of media in the region.
A special bench, comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices S A Bobde and S A Nazeer, will hear the petitions filed by advocate M L Sharma and Executive Editor, Kashmir Times, Anuradha Bhasin.
While the advocate has challenged the scrapping of provisions of Article 370 which has resulted in the creation of two Union Territories -- Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, the journalist has sought directions for restoring of all modes of communication, including mobile Internet and landline services, throughout the state to provide an enabling environment for the media to practise its profession.
