Days after communal clashes rocked Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj, leading to the death of Chandan Gupta, a new CCTV video has surfaced from the time the incident took place.
The footage shows what happened at the Vir Hulka Hamid Chowk of Hulka Mohalla in Kasganj from 8:56 am to 9:54 am on 26 December.
In the initial part of the footage, uploaded by The Times of India, one can see the area decorated with tricolour-themed balloons and a few chairs, as well as a flagpole for the hoisting of the tricolour, with people huddled around it. A few children are also seen waving the Indian flag.
At 9:52 am, there is some commotion seen in the footage. According to TOI, this is the time when the residents are confronted by around 200 people carrying out the Tiranga Yatra on motorcycles.
Clashes seem to erupt at 9:54 am with people seen picking up chairs and throwing them.
Regarding the incident, a resident of the area was quoted by TOI as saying:
The resident claimed that these people wanted the street, where the flag hosting was supposed to take place, to be cleared. He further pointed out that the residents of the locality asked them to be part of their celebration, but they hurled abuses and attacked them.
The police is investigating the CCTV footage, the report further added.
