Two more accused Naseem and Waseem were arrested on 7 February, for the death of Chandan Gupta, who was shot in the communal clashes in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj, reported ANI. Two pistols and bullets were also recovered from them.
Several other arrests have been made in connection with the communal clashes.
One more accused in the case , called Salman, was arrested by the police on Tuesday, 6 January.
Gupta had died of a gunshot. The killing had led to a spiral of violence in the town in which at least three shops, two buses and a car were torched.
Another accused was arrested by the police on 3 February in connection with the killing of Gupta.
Another accused, Rahat Qureshi, was nabbed from Kanshi Ram Colony on 3 February, for instigating the riot. Police have intensified patrolling in sensitive areas to instill confidence among the people shaken by the recent violence.
A Lucknow bench had also refused to issue any direction to the state government to award Rs 50 lakh compensation to the family of the deceased and grant status of martyr to him.
The bench of justices Vikram Nath and Abdul Moin was disposing of a PIL filed by Dileep Kumar Srivastava and others in the matter. Appearing for the petitioners, advocate Hari Shanker Jain questioned the alleged double standards in granting compensation to riot victims of different communities.
Opposing the PIL, state lawyer said that the Uttar Pradesh government had already granted compensation to the deceased and that the state police was conducting investigation into the incidents and as such there was no need of probe by the NIA.
