Man Allegedly Sets Woman, Mother Ablaze for Turning Down Proposal

The man stabbed the woman, tried to set her and her mother ablaze and fled the scene. He later attempted suicide.

In a shocking incident, a man allegedly attacked a woman and her mother in Koppal district in Karnataka, on 25 March. The man stabbed the woman and set both her and her mother on fire before attempting to commit suicide. All three have been admitted to the hospital with the young woman fighting for her life.

According to The Times of India, the accused Amaregouda Menedal, who hails from Marlanahalli village, offered a lift to Shahana Begum (25), a junior health assistant, and her mother Kamalabi (50) when they were waiting for a bus in Mudenur village.

They accepted his offer and rode pillion with Amaregouda. He stopped the bike at an agricultural field where he stabbed Shahana and poured petrol on both the women and set them ablaze. He then fled the spot.

Police told the daily that the man attacked the women after Shahana refused to marry him.

Shahana used to address him as ‘mama’. He was already married. When her marriage was fixed with another man, Amaregouda began persuading her to marry him.

Just last week, a man allegedly slashed the throat of a newly married woman in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh because she had turned down his proposal for marriage.

In the first week of March, a man attempted to murder a student of a Madurai city college, because she didn't want to be in a relationship with him. The man slit her wrists and neck and later took his own life by hanging himself. The woman survived.

In February, in another horrific incident, a Kerala man set a girl ablaze inside the classroom of Kottayam School of Medical Education and then immolated himself. This because the woman has rejected his advances. Both of them died.
