A Kolkata police team reached Chennai on Wednesday to arrest Calcutta High Court Judge, Justice CS Karnan, a day after the Supreme Court sentenced him to six months jail in a contempt case.
However, Justice Karnan was not in Tamil Nadu. According to some reports he was in the holy town of Srikalahasti, in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, and was expected to return to Chennai on Wednesday evening.
But an official at the temple told IANS over telephone on Wednesday that there was no trace of the judge.
Another temple official had earlier said that the judge was likely to reach the Andhra town on Wednesday evening and offer prayers on Thursday morning.
So where is Justice Karnan?
He was staying at a state guest house in Chennai where he checked in on Tuesday. But he has not vacated the room officially, and his bill remains to be settled, according to several reports. Officials said two other advocates who came with the judge have been asked to vacate their rooms in the Chennai guest house.
In January this year, he named 20 "corrupt judges" of the country and sought an investigation alleging corruption in the judiciary. He also wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
